MC5 as influence

[edit]

I used to see The Dharma Bums in Portland, and liked them. The references to The Rain Parade and R.E.M. make sense to me, but that their sound had an anymore than fleeting resemblance to The MC5 seems incorrect to me. The DB's did have a somewhat grittier sound than RP or REM, but MC5 is a stretch. I haven't edited the article, because I am not fully familiar with their material and might be ignoring recordings/shows I am unaware of.

I was the bass player in another Portland Band, The Miracle Workers, (1982-1986), and am quite familiar with bands like MC5/Stooges/Flamin' Groovies. In any case, The Dharma Bums were an important band here in Portland and their stuff stands the test of time. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jbarntt (talkcontribs) 03:46, 15 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
