Not just the "legislative capital"

[edit]

Misleading the reader, the intro to this article still refers to Dodoma being the "legislative capital." The presidency has opened its new location / palace in Dodoma and the supreme court is in Dodoma. ALL THREE branches of the government have moved to Dodoma -- Not just the executive branch. Please correct the intro section. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.106.179.119 (talk) 14:34, 23 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Date of Dodoma being made Capital

[edit]

WHEN WAS DODOMA MADE CAPITAL CITY?????

yeah, i think the capital is still Dar es Salam, although Dodoma is being planned to be the new capital

Dodoma is the capital city now. According to this website it was announced as so in 1974. The exact date of the change seems to be unclear (was there an official date?) but Dodoma is definitely the national capital now. Woodwardmw 15:45, 27 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The article on Tanzania says the capital moved from Dar es Salaam in 1996, the article on Dar es Salaam says 1974, the article on Dodoma says plans were made in 1973 and the the National Assembly moved in 1996. Seems to me we need one consistent answer. Perhaps: "Plans were made in the early 1970s to move the capital inland to Dodoma. These plans were approved in 1974, the National Assembly did not move until 1996 and many government offices remain in the old capital." DavisGL (talk) 07:39, 5 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The shift from Dar es Salaam to Dodoma was part of the presidental aspirations for a philosophy of African socialism in Tanzania. It thus represented a radical departure from European concepts of the characteristics and the function of a capital city. The site of Dodoma in central Tanzania ... Dodoma was located at a main transportation node and thus avoided the high costs of installing facilities...

I found these figures here, but they are at odds with the ones already on the page, so I've left them out. - FrancisTyers · 00:16, 10 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_cities_in_Tanzania shows population in Tansania till 2007. DEFINITIVELY it is not of 2002... --Wikistallion (talk) 11:26, 18 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Population is still a problem in this article. Somebody settle on a figure! YellowAries2010 (talk) 16:00, 2 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Dodoma (lit. 'It has sunk' in Gogo), officially Dodoma City, is the national capital of Tanzania[3] and the capital of the Dodoma Region, with a population of 410,956.[1] It was founded in 1907 by German colonists during construction of the Tanzanian central railway. The layout followed the typical colonial planning of the time with a European quarter segregated from a native village.
