Still requires[edit]

To aid myself in writing, I should list what his article still requires:

  • a discussion of the reasons why the lawsuit is frequently mentioned and referred to by scholars of Gaelic Ireland
  • expansion and some correction of the career section following Ó Murchadha
  • mention of Donal II O'Donovan's debt to him claimed by Donal of the Pipes, 13th Prince of Carbery. The article should then be B class.
  • patronage, harpers, and poets. Find A New History of Ireland, Volume ?
  • additional citation of Carew, surveys, LL, etc., and page numbers, for new facts and old, plus polishing. The article should then be GA or A class.
  • mention him as an ancestor of Princess Diana, or leave in Donal IV?
  • create short articles to link to for Donal of the Pipes, for Fineen O'Driscoll, and for Dermot Maol MacCarthy. Owen Mac Egan? Cornelius O'Driscoll? no time for it

The article could then become Featured, theoretically, but better after "completion" of Donal III and expansion of Donals I and IV. Nora lives (talk) 07:51, 21 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

It is the strangest thing in the world being descended from this person whose article I am writing. The O'Donovan family are not considered to be one of Ireland's great dynasties, having only been a regional power, but what they give me are the dynasties of Ivar and MacCarthy Reagh as once close family. They may be effectively defunct but that is incredibly precious, if it causes me some trouble on occasion. I will never get over having a little of those people in me. Maybe there is none left today except on paper but the knowledge of them is powerful. Nora lives (talk) 09:40, 23 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • surrender and regrant 1592. Date?
  • testimony of Fineen O'Driscoll

  • Kinsale? Exactly when? O'Mahony got this where?

Rosscarbery 1586[edit]

I have been wondering if it would be a problem to suggest that what might have happened was that once Lyon was recognized as a problem the MacCarthy Reagh (Owen) would have been complained to, but he couldn't risk his relationship with the Crown (Elizabeth), and so the responsibility fell to his deputy O'Donovan to deal with Lyon, as "gently" as possible. Rosscarbery belonged to the MacCarthy Reagh as far as I know, but it was also where he may have inaugurated the O'Donovan by tradition, so I think there is a good case. Add to that he was his son-in-law. It would have been obvious to everyone that if MacCarthy Reagh took action himself all of Carbery could be in serious trouble. Typical for an O'Donovan Donal II was heavy-handed and I'll bet a number of people were injured, besides Lyon's poor daughter (breaks my heart), but he got the job done and that bishop never came back.

Original research? (I don't mean anything by it, my good friends.) Nora lives (talk) 13:31, 7 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I'd like to point out that this editor belongs to a family which for over a hundred years has been attempting to correct John O'Donovan's version of the Clancahill pedigree. He's been crawling all over very well-sourced articles here with this purpose in mind. 2601:A:6504:212C:55E:486F:929A:CE7F (talk) 03:13, 25 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
