Adding a map?
[edit]I would like to add a map; ideally I would combine the two templates I am putting here, but I don't have enough Wiki-skill to do it yet. Can somebody help?

- Okay, I think I see what you mean -- you want to put the map inside the other infobox, more or less like the infobox at Columbia River -- yes? Unfortnately you're at the mercy of whoever designed the template for the infobox: {{Infobox_lake}} And it looks like they did not provide a place for a map. If you want to get into fancy coding, you could add that feature into the template, but I won't be able to help too much beyond cheering you on...I think that'll get kinda complicated. -Pete (talk) 06:59, 3 March 2008 (UTC)
- And this is the map: Image:Map of the Chech Region.png. --Soft needed (talk) 07:51, 3 March 2008 (UTC)
Change name of page?
[edit]The use of the word "dam" to describe the body of water has bothered me ever since I found this page. Check Dam - shouldn't we change the title of this page? I would like to see it be as in Pasarel, which takes you to a page whose actual title is "Pasarel Reservoir".
Don't know the customs on this one (nor do I know how to change the name of a page) - advice, anyone? — Martha (talk) 03:54, 2 April 2008 (UTC)
- To change the name, you have to move it. However, in this case the name we're looking for is the one it is known as. If newspapers and such call it the Dospat Dam, then that's what the article name should be. Cheers, Master of Puppets Call me MoP! :) 03:58, 2 April 2008 (UTC)
- Master, what newspapers are you referring to? If this article is about the body of water, then it should be clearly established what the name of the body of water is. If it's about the dam, it should be made clear that the dam is the central subject, and the reservoir impounded by it should be a section of the article. There are some turns of phrase within the article that seem strange to me. For instance, "The dam is rich in fish." Shouldn't it be "the reservoir is rich in fish" or "the river is rich in fish?"
- It's not at all uncommon for a single article to cover two entities (e.g. a reservoir and a dam.) It's easy to make redirects so that, for instance, typing Dospat Reservoir takes you to this article. The lead section (i.e. what's above the table of contents) should make clear what entities are treated in the article, and how they're related to one another. It should also bold both titles if possible. -Pete (talk) 19:18, 2 April 2008 (UTC)
- Just to be clear, in my view the biggest shortcoming of this article, in its present form, is the fact that it doesn't cite a single source. -Pete (talk) 19:20, 2 April 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks, both of you. I'm investigating "how does the World refer to this item?", see User:Martha Forsyth/Mom's Code-samples#my "TO DO" list - I think the WikiMapia listing is relevant to this. I'll see about sources too. The Bulgarian version of the page is longer and may have some sources worth citing here. -- Martha (talk) 22:35, 2 April 2008 (UTC)
- Hmm, my Cyrillic-reading skills are not what they once were, but do you mean this article: bg:Доспат (язовир)? I'm thinking not, its' considerably shorter than the English article. Where's the Bulgarian one? -Pete (talk) 23:27, 2 April 2008 (UTC)
- No, it's - but I just noticed that although this is the TITLE of that page, below the map it uses the term "Dospat Dam". Somewhere I read that usage in Bulgaria is often "dam" rather than "reservoir" to indicate manmade - this was in English but I don't remember where. I'm letting that question rest fot a moment, but I worked on a map. Have a look at this (scaled down from my actual map):
- I want to make this "good enough" and then transfer it to Commons - may need some help, but am not ready for that yet. — Martha (talk) 23:09, 4 April 2008 (UTC)
Mmmmm—I left this one dangling, didn't I! Re "which page was I talking about" (Pete), I actually meant bg:Доспат, not [Dospat reservoir]. I just looked at that page, the references are actually about the population of the town and not relevant to this page about the Dam/Reservoir (though might be to Dospat.) I guess I should "get bold" and put one of the maps on the page! [DONE] I also, somewhere, have some other photos. Some day.... —Martha (talk) 13:52, 13 May 2008 (UTC), 17:21, 13 May 2008 (UTC)
