2009 AIG reporting[edit]

I have just restored a summary of April, 2009, NY Times reporting about Corrigan and Goldman's role in the AIG Federal rescue.

The summary was removed wholesale last July by ISP 69.140.159.59, with the explanation that it was "speculative and potential libelous content." While I know that a lot of reporting has been done since that time, my reading of the summary (as amended today in minor ways) was that it was based then on good NYT reporting which has been, to my knowledge, well born out by subsequent revelations. Corrigan, specifically, was placed in the discussions by AIG chair Willumstad in the NYT article, as is clear in the summary.

As to the quality of the Times reporting, there have been no corrections noted with the article relative to Corrigan or Goldman roles. I've heard of no libel actions taken against the Times. "Speculative" I don't see, reading the summary -- it's reporting by a credible publication which stood and continues to stand behind the piece.

I can anticipate, as I did at the time, some objection that some of the material covered Goldman but not necessarily Corrigan. However, I have not overstated the explicit Corrigan role and think the Goldman background is helpful in beginning to portray the context, issues and actions of which Corrigan certainly was an integral part.

If anyone has sourced updates which clarify either the broader Goldman role in this regard, or Corrigan's role specifically, they'd of course be welcome.

I'm sorry to be so slow to return to this article. I am going to add a couple more developments in Corrigan's role at the firm, now. Swliv (talk) 22:19, 29 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
