Dudley Miles The current cite template is deprecated and produces an External link error message. According to this weekly update run [1], the page is in need of clean up. The templates are offered at Template: Cite ODNB, where much has been worked on. Why was it better before with an error message? Regards. The joy of all things (talk) 11:33, 25 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
The cite ODNB template is inferior because (at least in this case) it does not give a link to the ODNB article and it shows oswiu in uncapitalised, which is wrong. I have to go out now but I will check and come back to you on the error message. Dudley Miles (talk) 11:42, 25 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Dudley Miles It does provide a link, you click the blue DOI link, and the title can be written in any case as the parameter is free text and so can be either Oswiu, oswiu, or even OSWIU if the source deems it to be written as such. If it was uncapitalised, then that was my fault. The joy of all things (talk) 11:47, 25 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
There are two links in Craig, D. J. (2004). "oswiu". Oxford Dictionary of National Biography (online ed.). Oxford University Press. (Subscription or UK public library membership required.), one to the wiki article on ODNB, the other to the DNB page on public library access. There is no blue doi link to the ODNB Oswiu article on my computer. I see that the old link was dated 2012 and now outdated, so I have updated it. Do you see any problem with my up to date version? Dudley Miles (talk) 15:19, 25 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
No, it all looks fine. Within the template I used, you can link to the Wiki ODNB article if needed, though can't see why that's absolutely necessary, and the DOI blue link is there for me in that template. Hopefully resolved now? Regards. The joy of all things (talk) 16:27, 25 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
