The heir-apparent to a viscountcy (as such) never gets a courtesy peerage, nor does the second heir-apparent to an earldom. —Tamfang (talk) 22:12, 8 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Master of Stormont[edit]

I would not list "Master of Stormont" as a subsidiary title, because the Earl does not hold it. The title Master of X belongs to the heir (apparent or presumptive) to the title Lord X (edit 2023: or Lord Blank of X). Calling it a subsidiary title of the earldom is like saying Duke of Rothesay is a subsidiary title of the monarch. —Tamfang (talk) 01:58, 30 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Tamfang: that is a very good point. On a related topic, perhaps the titles Lord Scone and Lord Balvaird should be added as subsidiary titles, if you feel that would be suitable. Those two titles were held by successive Viscounts Stormont from the fourth Viscount Stormont onward; later, David Murray, 7th Viscount Stormont (1727–1796) succeeded as Earl of Mansfield in 1793. — Blairall (talk) 18:54, 30 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

sequence of sequences[edit]

The present earl is listed as "9th and 8th". Is that how he is described in authoritative sources? As he is 8th of the senior creation and 9th of the junior, one might expect "8th and 9th". —Tamfang (talk) 00:02, 28 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
