Created talk-page

[edit]

Created the talk-page for the "Eastman Memorandum" article - in any case - Stay Safe and Healthy !! - Drbogdan (talk) 01:06, 1 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Memorandums?

[edit]

Memorandums? Seriously? Is that considered acceptable? GA-RT-22 (talk) 18:01, 31 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

First Eastman memo text

[edit]

The second page of the first Eastman memo is quoted in the "First memorandum" section but the article doesn't say anywhere that the memo is being quoted. I don't know how to add make it clear that all that text is lifted verbatim from the memo. Could someone make the change or tell me what to do? Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Cauldron bubble (talkcontribs) 05:06, 17 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Also I think the text in the "Second memorandum" section copies text from that second memorandum as hosted on CNN, but it doesn't say anywhere that the memo has been copied into the article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Cauldron bubble (talkcontribs) 05:11, 17 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

We don't normally quote that extensively from anything. I don't think this article can be saved. The topic is not notable on its own, and there is very little content here apart from the text of the memos. In my opinion it should just be deleted, after merging anything of value to either John C. Eastman or Attempts to overturn the 2020 United States presidential election. GA-RT-22 (talk) 05:22, 17 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Looking at both articles I think it would be better to merge to the Attempts to overturn the 2020 United States presidential election article because these memos are part of those attempts. How does that get done? Thank you!Cauldron bubble (talk) 16:57, 17 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
It's not hard, but it's tedious. Wikipedia:Merging. GA-RT-22 (talk) 22:55, 20 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
As a start, I put both of these in quote boxes. It's still not perfectly clear that these are verbatim quotes. Whether we merge or not, I think the right thing to do is remove these quotes, summarize their contents in the text, and link to the full memos either as a ref or as ELs. I did some google searching on wikipedia copyright, went down a rabbit hole, and ended up at a page called Earwig's copyvio detector. When I put this "Eastman memorandums" page in, it showed that there was an 88.1% probability of copyright violation. The highlighted text is the first memo. https://copyvios.toolforge.org/?lang=en&project=wikipedia&title=Eastman+memorandums&oldid=&action=search&use_engine=1&use_links=1&turnitin=0 I think the first memo is already summarized in the article so the quote can be removed. I'm not as familiar with the second memo but it's partly summarized too I think. I looked at merge instructions and it looks pretty complicated but I'll start tomorrow. Thank you. I've been thinking and the Attempts to overturn the 2020 United States presidential election article is really long, so in some ways it makes sense to put the memos in a different article. I'm going to try to summarize the memos and the circumstances under which they were written and came to light. Cauldron bubble (talk) 02:31, 29 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Self coup

[edit]

None of the four cited sources call it a "self coup". So I suggest we stick with coup. This has gone back and forth a couple of times. Whichever one we choose, we should use the same term in both places. GA-RT-22 (talk) 19:33, 28 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The Date Of The First Eastman Memo

[edit]

During the Khary Penebaker et al v. Andrew Hitt et al case, Kenneth Chesebro's emails were disclosed, revealing a communication from John Eastman. The email, dated December 23, 2020, suggests that Eastman did not start preparing his strategy in late 2020 following a December 24, 2020 request by a Trump aide source.
