Tregony dates[edit]

There seems to be some confusion in the sources for the dates that Denny was MP for Tregony (UK Parliament constituency). In this article it states he starts in 1595, in the Tregony article (which I assume to be correctly sourced) it has him starting in 1597 and in this source he starts earlier in 1587. Anyone got an idea which is correct? Zangar (talk) 12:18, 30 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The History of Parliament Online, the website of The History of Parliament Trust which is maintained by the Institute of Historical Research says; "In 1597 Denny was returned for the Cornish borough of Tregony, probably on the nomination of his relation, Hugh Pomeroy." According to the same article, he did serve briefly as the Member for Liskeard in 1584, but "before February 1587 Denny went to Ireland again". I will amend this article accordingly, as Parliament Online seems to me to be an impeccable source, unless anybody can find a better one. I have found typos in thepeerage.com before. I have also amended his year of death using the same source; thepeerage.com says "He died on 12 February 1599/0". This was the notation for the Julian calender, both years being quoted between the start of January and the New Year on 25 March. The Oxford Dictionary of National Biography agrees the 1600 date.
