The probate for Edwin Arnold Clear says he died in Shenley Hospital, Nr St Albans. This makes more sense than Bethlem as the family lived in that areaSueclear62 (talk) 19:32, 22 December 2018 (UTC)

A caution against error
[edit]The following contribution by a family member has been moved here to serve as a caution against error:
- "A previous entry on this page stated that, In 1927, Clear was named as a tax commissioner for the borough of Saint Albans; his address was given as Kingsbury Knoll, Verulam Road.[1]
- "This Edwin Clear was in fact the uncle of the subject of this page and had a son Gordon Sampson Clear, born in 1912, who followed the family interest in flying, joining the RAFVR between the wars. Sadly he was killed in WW2 in a Mosquito returning from an air raid days before being awarded the DFC."
The tipoff is that British sources, and most especially the official gazettes, are pretty meticulous in noting ranks and honours earned. Even after return to civil life, ex-military members are credited with the rank and hounours they earned while in service. In this case, that means that the fact that the Edwin Clear named a tax commissioner was not noted as having earned an MC (Military Cross) should have warned the researcher/contributor (me) that I was unclear on Clear.
Future contributors: please use this info to avoid error(s).
