Oppose. While an argument can be made for Elephant trunk as WP:PRIMARYREDIRECT to Elephant#Trunk, there are six entries listed upon the Elephant trunk disambiguation page, with the first entry — An elephant trunk or elephant's trunk is the Elephant#Trunk|proboscis/nose of an elephant — flowing directly to that topic. —Roman Spinner (talk • contribs) 04:44, 18 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
https://wikinav.toolforge.org/?language=en&title=Elephant_trunk indicates 644 outgoing views for the proposed primary topic compared to 2k incoming views (~32%), which is not decisive at all. Because this is formatted as a regular phrase, the long-term significance argument seems inherently valid, though. The only other meaning that is formatted like that is the astronomy meaning, which in turn got 106 outgoing views (~5%). If we make a primary redirect, that means this traffic will short-circuit there, and the stats for Elephant are already at 114.8k incoming views - it will be so much harder to notice if there's a need to disambiguate again. So I guess we should make a comparison of the long-term significance of these, and estimate what is the expectation of an average English reader when they look for "elephant trunk". --Joy (talk) 07:56, 18 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
