Many 19th-century biographic sketches claim (apparently incorrectly) that he was born in Blandford. According to longer sketches (such as this one) he was born near Fort Edward in 1770, the family fleeing to Blandford in 1777. Magic♪piano14:27, 3 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
