I did it that way due to the characters used to write her name. 遠山 is written とおやま instead of とうやま, so I wanted to make that clear. It's not the standard "long o". --nihon 18:52, 24 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
It's still o-macron. At least in the romanization that follows her Japanese name. This is different from, for example, Hiroo 広尾 in which one "o" is in one kanji, and the other in a different kanji. But this one is in a single kanji, like Ōsaka in the Japanese pronunciation after the kanji (but not in the English --- as you know, we write that without macron since it's fully accepted in English).
