Folkrace vs Bangers rodeo[edit]

Have you got Bangers rodeos or so-called demolition derbys in Sweden? It is not the intention of Folkrace that the last man driving is the winner, after he has crashed all other competitors out of the race. Although Folkrace is driven with mostly terrible looking cars it is IMO some kind of "Rallycross for the poor" and has nothing to do with deliberately forcing other drivers to retire. Otherwise it would definetely not be regognised by the SBF. AFAIK Banger races are in no European country recognised by any ASN. RX-Guru (talk) 15:53, 15 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Banger racing does not necessarily mean you have to crash all the orher cars. As it says at banger racing "drivers of old vehicles race against one another around a race track and the race is won in terms of the first car to the chequered flag". // Liftarn (talk)

This needs a clearer explanation[edit]

"Anyone can place a fixed price bid on any car, and the buyer is then chosen by draw. The fixed price is € 1500 (Finland, ca. USD 1650 ) or 8000 SEK (Sweden, ca. USD 1000). Refusing to sell is grounds for having one's competition license revoked, however participants with handicaps can get an exemption if they need special equipment in the cars."

I just heard about this, or I'd probably have no clue what this segment was talking about. Even with this knowledge it isn't very clear what this is trying to say. I heard that basically every car is officially valued at the same arbitrary number, say $2,000 (not clear if this applies to ALL the cars, or if there are different "price classes"). The only enforcement is that after a race, if another person approaches you and says "I want to buy your car", you MUST sell to them at that fixed price. That prevents anyone from dropping a ton of money into their car, because they could just loose it all the moment a person demands they sell their car at the arbitrary value. And if you spend a bunch of money making an obviously fast car, it is just incentive for someone to try to buy it off of you, so you WILL lose your money and your fast car. So this just makes it imperative to rely on your driving skill instead of spending a bunch of money to make your car faster than everyone else. And if you DID do it anyway, it would all even out because every owner in turn would just lose the car the moment someone demanded that they sell it. So no one could gain a real advantage from it anyway. I'm not sure what all this is about bidding and buyer being chosen by draw, like I said, this is not made clear at all as it is phrased right now, and I can't fix it because I don't even know what it's trying to say. I would be completely baffled if I hadn't had it described elsewhere before I came to the page.
