Unusual claim about downforce[edit]

The Performance section says "The Escort RS Cosworth was the first mass production car to produce downforce at the front and rear". This is an incredibly silly thing to say. "Drag" produces downforce. Saying that this is the first car to have downforce on the front and read is like saying "this is the first car that experienced aerodynamic drag". Every car that produces drag will produce some amount of downforce from that drag, unless the foil that produces the drag is designed like a wing to produce lift.

It looks to me like someone misunderstood something that they read about the car somewhere. Does anyone know if there is a more correct version of what this person tried to write? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Impreziv (talk • contribs) 19:09, 16 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The wing on the rear produces downforce, it's specifically designed to push the rear end down. As you reference a wing, the rear aero kit acts exactly like a wing. The front aero kit produces the same effect eithout it the front end would lift and as greater airflow goes under the car the greater the lift, hence the front aero kit is designed to negate the lift and actively push the car down.

Drag is the effect of forces that oppose the relative motion of an object through the air, it neither creates lift nor downforce. Think of it as resistance to forward motion Fraudbusters (talk) 20:19, 8 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with the above comments about Mr. Badd. I live in the States and wanted to see what this car really looks like,and I all I see is someone's car that has been modified. I wanted to see what one looked like without the mods. I also think whomever owns Mr. Badd put his own car in the article to show off to people. Removed picture[edit]

I removed the photo of the car as it is not a true representation of the car. This is someone's modified car that they have placed in Wikipedia,as is evident by the Mr. Badd lettering across the cars windshield. I am sorry but it just really needs to be a regular picture,not a picture of a modified,pimped out car, as that is not what the car looks like originally. Just because someone owns a digital camera and can take photos, does not mean they should be posted to Wikipedia. Also there were other complaints about the picture on the discussion page. Aero kit designer[edit]

I have changed the aero designer details. The popular misconception that Frank Stephenson designed it was brought about by Wheeler Dealers TV show and has been disproven by accredited sources from the time of the cars design & inception including Ian Callum, Steve Harper and detailed in books by Graham Robson and Steve Saxty.
