[edit]Is his first name not spelled Gebran? See: http://www.cnn.com/2005/WORLD/meast/12/12/lebanon.blast/index.html Lancer Sykera 12:34, 12 December 2005 (UTC)
- There's many transliteration of his name: Gibran, Gebran, Jubran, Joubran, Jibran, Jebran... we can only use the most popular one or the official one (if there's any). CG 12:42, 12 December 2005 (UTC)
I've put a redirect from Gebran Tueni. Gibran is the spelling used by Reuters, usually a very reliable source. Also -- Gibran is used in several articles on Wikipedia already. --mad 12:47, 12 December 2005 (UTC)
I removed the final paragraph for irrelevance (connection to Syria had already been mentioned and further assassinations, while noteworthy, do not belong in a biographical sketch) and NPOV-issues: I suggest moving this information to another article, e.g., politics of Lebanon or Syria-Lebanon relations.
Gebran Tueni:Al-Nahar's Rooster
[edit]Gebran Tueni, not only a courageous journalist that claims freedom for his contry , but also he was also an Ideal for the youth, for the next coming generation.Being young, charming and smart got him closer to the youth. He visited the students at the universities on so many different occasions and listened to what they had to say , answered their questions with complete honesty and respect for their thoughts. When he is present the ambiance is different, the tone is stronger, the issues become more interesting, arguying with him is an art.

[edit]Tueni was a brave man not afraid to tell the truth about the situation whatever the cost he will always be remembered as this as a man who loved his country with all his heart and was ready to die for it in the cause of its freedom and his oath at 14 march assembly in the memorial of one month assasination of rafiq hariri we here swear by God moslems and christians to stay united until eternity in defence of great lebanon. (in arabic نقسم بلله العظيم مسلمين و مسيحيين ان نبقى موحدين الى ابد الابدين دفاعا عن لينان العظيم)he devouted his life to the youth of lebanon and to increase their knowledge in democracy he issued a youth magazine for the journalists of lebanese university on his own expense god rest his soul. Gebran was one of the few people who in history who will be remembered in history he still lives in us
Confusions
[edit]The article includes the text:
His uncle was the Druze Telecommunications Minister Marwan Hamadeh... In May 2005 he was elected a member of Parliament of Lebanon for the Greek Orthodox seat in Beirut ...
1. Well, was he Druze or Christian? I suppose his family could be both, but would be unusual and would merit explicit clarification.
2. Are Parlimentary positions distributed by confession as well, or does the text intend that he was elected to represent a largely Greek Orthodox neighborhood? (Please clarify in the article itself!)
Later in the article we come across:
He was a member of the political coalition Qornet Shehwan Gathering headed by Catholic Maronite bishop Youssef Bechara who, informed sources assert, is a Syrian intelligence informer.
3. So the Qornet Shehwan Gathering, which has been working to eliminate Syrian influence in Lebanon is, in fact, headed by a Syrian intelligence operative? A bizarre presumption if ever I heard one.
4. Beyond that, the qualifier informed sources assert is unworthy of an encyclapedia. (Which sources? How do they know? What is the evidence?)
I shan't make changes to the article yet, but I hope that the writer(s) will give these matters some thought. --Philopedia (talk) 22:54, 26 November 2007 (UTC)
