Not sure where all this baloney about Rancho Mirage comes from. He built his own home RIGHT HERE: http://goo.gl/maps/qfP6Z For some reason the house was destroyed, and only a small pile of debris is seen in the satellite image. He built that house with his own hands. Home in Cahuilla Hills

During the 1970's and 1980's he was building a house for himself (by himself, with his own hands) in the exclusive Cahuilla Hills neighborhood in Palm Springs. He was forced to abandon the project, and the wood framing was scavenged. The original site, still vacant can be seen here:
