Confused[edit]

I am confused, at the wiki site for Dr. Seuss we claim that Gerald McBoing-Boing was written in approximately 1949, and won an academy award in 1950, but on the Gerald McBoing-Boing wiki site, we claim that Gerald was written in 1951, and never mentions an academy award.

Released in Jan. 1951, won the academy award that year - fixed the Dr. Seuss date - DavidWBrooks 01:22, 23 Jan 2005 (UTC)

But the master list http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Academy_Award_for_Animated_Short_Film has it winning the 1950 Academy Award. So does this page: http://theoscarsite.com/pictures1950/geraldmcboing.htm which looks pretty authoritative. BTW, I added a mention of scorer Gail Kubik, who always gets credited when the piece is presented in a concert form (a la Peter and the Wolf).--BillFlis 20:31, 23 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Perhaps the confusion is that the 1950 award was given at the ceremony in March 1951. That should, mean that the cartoon was released in 1950, since the awards (even back then) were given for films released in the previous calendar year. However, I can find several authoritative-looking sites that give January 1951 as the release date, including [1] and [2] and [3]. Jan. 1951 is early enough to be included in the "1950" award ceremony, even though it seems to break the Academy Awards rule ... so I am confused. - DavidWBrooks 00:18, 24 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hellboy extra[edit]

Two Gerald McBoing-Boing shorts appeared as extras on the DVD of Hellboy. Gerald McBoing-Boing (1951) and Gerald McBoing-Boing on the Planet Moo (1956). Can somebody find a place for them in this article? --Guthrie 15:00, 1 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

They've been in the article for a long time. Maybe I'm not quite sure what you're asking for. - DavidWBrooks

There's in fact three Gerald McBoing Boing shorts on "Hellboy", which I'm very happy to have just discovered. I think Guthrie was asking that their availability on the "Hellboy" DVD special edition be included in your article, so that people would know where to more easily access these gems? I've just added a short paragraph to this effect, and am glad to be able to share their availability here. Cheers.

series name[edit]

The 1956-57 Sunday series was not called The Gerald McBoing-Boing Show. According to an ad that CBS ran in Broadcasting magazine Feb 11 1957 it was called The Boing-Boing Show.
