The A7V mock up
[edit]I find this sentence a bit odd the way it builds up the A7V replica "The large collection of armoured vehicles includes some rare or unique types. For example, the museum has an authentic replica of an A7V German First World War tank, the only example of its type in Europe". Errrh.... its a mock up!, not a real tank. Why is that so special? If anything, its a bit dubious that a museum should have a fake exhibit in with its real ones.
- And the article makes that clear. But if there are no real ones, a replica (fake is not the right word) is still valuable, especially if it's the only one. And could you please sign your comments. --Bermicourt (talk) 11:10, 12 April 2012 (UTC)
- It's no longer the only mockup in Europe. A working mockup (based on the chassis of a tracked, agricultural vehicle) has been built in the UK by a private individual. See: Youtube clip Catsmeat (talk) 12:22, 12 April 2012 (UTC)
Yes the article makes that clear, but that doesn't make it any better. Its a mock up, and its not the only one in Europe. I'm not saying its not valuable, just saying that a mock up tank shouldn't be equated with a real one in a Museum. Deathlibrarian (talk) 07:17, 30 May 2012 (UTC)
- Well crack on and improve the wording then! Bermicourt (talk) 19:33, 30 May 2012 (UTC)
The replica is a 100% workable new built, made from the same companies which had built the original tank. So its fare more than a mockup. A museum has to show a general survey about a topic and for the german tank history the A7V was important. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 146.60.63.6 (talk) 08:01, 6 September 2013 (UTC)
- Agree. The Australian National Maritime Museum has in its collection a replica of the HMB Endeavour, it's a significant exhibit, and being a replica (not a fake!) doesn't reduce its educational value. Regards, DPdH (talk) 09:13, 16 March 2014 (UTC)
