Misleading
[edit]The current description seems to imply that Hindenburg was facing Marx and Braun in the election, and defeated them. But this isn't what happened at all. There was a first round where each major party (save the DNVP, who backed the DVP candidate) ran its own candidate - Jarres for the DVP, Braun for the SPD, Marx for the Zentrum, Hellpach for the DDP, Thälmann for the KPD, Held for the BVP. After that was done, Jarres and Held withdrew, and the DVP, DNVP, and BVP supported Hindenburg, who was brought in as a new candidate; Hellpach and Braun also withdrew, and backed Marx. Hindenburg never faced Braun. He only faced Marx as the candidate of the Weimar Coalition, and Thälmann the Communist. But I'm not sure how to change it around to indicate this. john k (talk) 01:52, 19 March 2009 (UTC)
Number of candidates
[edit]@Number 57: I'm 99% sure "seventeen" was vandalism that slipped under the radar. It was added in this edit from an account whose only other contribution is another nonsense edit one minute later. I inquired with Atomiccocktail, who wrote most of the German page for this election and added a note there about the candidates listed under Other or "versplittert", and there doesn't seem to be a definitive number available. I was also unable to find anything myself. I propose removing the line about the number of candidates, or modifying it to say there were seven significant candidates. - OK, no problem. I think perhaps it's best to remove the line entirely. Cheers, Number 57 10:32, 25 November 2022 (UTC)
