Photographs of a ghost shirt?

[edit]

The article says that it's a sensitive topic, etc, and photographs are bad mmkay or words to that effect, but there are thousands of photos of ghost shits all over the internets. I've written to the owner of ghostdance.com and asked if he would be willing to contribute one of his many photos free of copyright to Wiki for our article. I will update if I hear back from him, but I have also urged him to consider adding them himself AND contributing any information he may have on the subject as this article is kind of teetering on being a stub pretty much! :(

I hope he comes through as I would like to see us with as many photos as amateur interest websites out there at least, obviously not as much as a full on special interest site like the gent I emailed of course, but there are a lot of smaller sites covering it with lots of great images too we could ask if we don't get our hands on one this way. Wounded Knee reference?

[edit]

The article refers to Wounded Knee as follows: "The shirts did not work as promised, and consequently 153 Lakota died, with 50 wounded and 150 missing at the Wounded Knee Massacre" - is there any evidence those at Wounded Knee were wearing ghost shirts? I thought many were women and children. In which case they did not die as a consequence of ghost shirts not working, they died for an entirely different reason. Article very similar to another

[edit]

This article should be combined with The Ghost Shirt, begun a couple of years after this one. Twang (talk) 03:17, 27 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

It is not a "very similar" article. It is an article about a specific shirt. Shirt of Nessus to be merged with shirt? The dress to be merged with dress? Princess Diana's wedding dress to be merged with wedding dress? SpinningSpark 16:21, 27 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Merger proposal

[edit]

I propose merging The Ghost Shirt into Ghost shirts because other shirts are also being discovered in museums and undergoing repatriation (see reference), while singling out that particular Ghost Shirt as "The Ghost Shirt" will cause confusion even though it is notable in its own right as @Spinningspark pointed out.

Reference: Marcelo, Philip (28 July 2022). "Wounded Knee artifacts at Barre museum highlight slow pace of repatriations". WBUR. Associated Press. Retrieved 26 December 2022. 108.18.207.147 (talk) 04:46, 27 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Your proposal sounds to me more like a rationale for renaming The Ghost Shirt than a rationale for merging. I would support a rename, I'm not seeing sources refer to it as a proper noun in this way. I'm not so sure about merging. If Ghost shirt were a longer article, it might be ok, but as it stands, a merger would put WP:UNDUE emphasis on one particular shirt in my opinion (the article to be merged in is actually longer than the target article). The notability of The Ghost Shirt is not being challenged so there is no argument for a merge on notability grounds (but it is incorrect that I defended the notability of the article in the previous discussion, I didn't make a declaration either way). It's been eight months. No one have taken any action. I'm removing the merge notices. If anyone wants to follow through and take any action, please do you.
