Notable alumni
[edit]It would be good if we could add (Class of xx) behind the name of each of the Notable alumni! Farawayman (talk) 20:20, 22 October 2009 (UTC)
Is the idea only to include notable alumni who have wikipedia entries? There are a number of other alumni who have accomplished a great deal who are not included here, and whose names are regularly deleted when they are added. Totorotroll (talk) 12:47, 11 November 2010 (UTC)
- "Notable" in this case (I think) implies (a.) "Famous" and (b.) there be a definitive reference / citation quoted to substantiate the claim to notability and ties to Glenwood. Farawayman (talk) 21:51, 5 May 2011 (UTC)
Logo to be deleted
[edit]Some "picture police" member is threatening to delete the Glenwood Logo - could someone do something about this???

Alumni
[edit]Lists of alumni on school pages are of notable alumni. That means that they either have a Wikipedia article to show their notability, or that they have sufficient reliable sources to show that they would clearly qualify for an article if one were written. A link to a school page listing the alumni is not sufficient. I have removed the material originally removed by user:Gab4gab . See WP:WTAF Meters (talk) 23:35, 4 March 2021 (UTC)
Most of this material comes from the school's own homepage, and there is a danger of this article turning into an advert for the school. I'm removing this material. Totorotroll (talk) 21:28, 14 March 2021 (UTC)
- The names listed are all notable and with one exception have citations confirming they attended. Notable alumni is a standard element of high school articles. It would be very unusual to reach consensus to remove the section. Because user :Totorotroll removed the section without consensus here for it's removal I've restored it. Gab4gab (talk) 10:20, 15 March 2021 (UTC)
- My point is that these should be supported by secondary sources, not just the homepage of Glenwood High School. Totorotroll (talk) 12:02, 15 March 2021 (UTC)
- Totorotroll Recommend you spend more time looking at school data with lists and lists of "notable alumni" with NO citations, rather than faulting pages with well researched and cited information. Farawayman (talk) 12:13, 15 March 2021 (UTC)
- As you will see from preceding sections, I have been keeping a watch on this page since 2010. At that time, I added a number of notable South African personalities who had gone to Glenwood and had followed very successful careers. These were very justifiably removed due to lack of reliable sources, and I see that you, Farawayman were involved in this discussion. Now I see that the alumni section has been revived, which is all very well. The difficulty I see here is that the article is beginning to read more and more like an advertisment for the school, which really isn't the point of a wikipedia article. Glenwood's own website does an adequate job of promoting the school, as it should. Editors should instead find secondary sources, that is, not the primary source of Glenwood's own homepage, when updating this site. This is not only to avoid possible bias and the risk of this turning into an advert, but also to add a variety of interesting perspectives on the subject. Totorotroll (talk) 13:07, 15 March 2021 (UTC)
