Complete resurfacing of the surface of the neutron star

[edit]

Could a glitch be caused by a complete resurfacing of the surface of the neutron star? It would explain both the glitch and the gradual recovery. Just granpa (talk) 09:09, 15 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Well I did the math and I must admit that I'm a little bit surprised at how it works out. The crust would only have to be one centimeter thick to account for the change in angular momentum. That's assuming that during a global resurfacing event that the solid crust is completely replaced with liquid that is 20% less dense. Just granpa (talk) 23:28, 22 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

What do you mean by "resurfacing"? Jim77742 (talk) 12:22, 4 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Can we get graphs showing the glitches? http://articles.adsabs.harvard.edu/cgi-bin/nph-iarticle_query?bibcode=1981ApJ...249..687D&db_key=AST&page_ind=1&plate_select=NO&data_type=GIF&type=SCREEN_GIF&classic=YES fig 1 or doi:10.1038/222228a0 figures, etc. — Omegatron (talk) 16:55, 13 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
