Anyone know what issue of National Geographic that sunset reference is from?

Unpaid ads[edit]

To Grand Bend businesses: Placing ads on the Grand Bend Wikipedia article is completely unacceptable. These ads are unpaid and just waste the time of whoever has to delete them. People can see who you are by just checking the history, so if you don't want to appear dishonest and pathetic, don't post your ads here!

Website[edit]

please do not change the website from www.grandbend.com to www.grandbendstrip.com. Grand Bend strip is a community newspaper not the website for grand bend, nor is Grand Bend Strip the official tourism website as noted on the Municipality of Lambton Shores Website. Magnetawan (talk) 10:04, 3 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

There seems to be a user or multiple users (User:Grand-bend, & User:216.46.145.67) who keep changing the website for the community from www.grandbend.com to www.grandbendstrip.com If you feel this is a necessary change please discuss it here before making further changes. www.grandbendstrip.com is a website for a community newspaper and is listed as an external link, it is not however the actual community website. Manager of the Welcome Centre in Grand Bend and the Grand Bend & Area Chamber of Commerce: "grandbend.com" is NOT the website for the town. It is owned and operated by an individual not the Municipality of Lambton Shores. Sadly, "grandbendstrip.com" is a long gone local newspaper that was published by an individual. As the note below states - "www.grandbendtourism.com" is the official tourism information website, owned and maintained by the Grand Bend & Area Chamber of Commerce. We also produce the local visitor guide "It Starts at the Beach...And Ends Where You Want". We can be reached at 519-238-2001 year-round. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.203.162.44 (talk) 14:29, 4 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The website used should be the official tourism website for Grand Bend: Grand Bend Tourism.com

As this is the official website for visiting Grand Bend.

Image needs replacement[edit]

Hello all...

An image used in the article, specifically Image:Grand Bend lake.jpg, has a little bit of a licensing issue. The image was uploaded back when the rules around image uploading were less restrictive. It is presumed that the uploader was willing to license the picture under the GFDL license but was not clear in that regard. As such, the image, while not at risk of deletion, is likely not clearly licensed to allow for free use in any future use of this article. If anyone has an image that can replace this, or can go take one and upload it, it would be best.

You have your mission, take your camera and start clicking.--Jordan 1972 (talk) 20:47, 4 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

National geographic magazine world's best sunset ?[edit]

For years regionally there's been an ongoing claim that Grand Bend, Ontario appears as number one (occasionally number two) on a list in a back issue of National Geographic magazine as experiencing the "world's best sunsets". Unfortunately, no one seems to have ever been able to provide information nailing down specifically what issue this claim appears in and because of that it maintains a "legendary" status. After years of dawdling over copyright issues, the magazine is purportedly preparing to post a complete (and keyword searchable) archive of all their back issues "sometime in 2009". Hopefully, when it occurs, this whole thing will be either confirmed at last, or finally put to rest. cheers Deconstructhis (talk) 17:46, 9 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

National Geographic has put their keyword searchable publications index online,[1] but the results are negative for Grand Bend's claim to having been listed in the magazine at one time as experiencing the "world's best sunset". It's interesting to take note that a Toronto Star article from July 19, 2003 (pg.03) titled "Southampton: Land of the setting sun" makes a similar claim for a community further north along the Lake Huron coastline: [...] "Locals claim National Geographic once even declared Southampton sunsets to be the second-best on the planet, just a notch below those at Japan's Mount Fuji. And though the magazine's researchers have been unable to find such a reference, it hasn't stopped Southampton from claiming the distinction or discouraged sunset-seekers from making the pilgrimage."[...] A Sauble Beach (another Lake Huron resort village) tourist website[2] maintains that "In the mid-1970s, Port Elgin was reportedly recognized by National Geographic as having the second-most beautiful sunsets in the world, second only to a city in Africa." A Google search seems to indicate that the Grand Bend variant is the most common version of the tale, but alas, no one seems to have ever demonstrated that that there is any truth to the matter; although, because it's so widespread online, I'll wager that it will eventually make its way back into the article. cheers Deconstructhis (talk) 17:51, 19 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Tourist Information[edit]

I haven't really come across a good spot for tourists to be made aware of the by-laws of Grand Bend/Lambton Shores... For example there is a $100 fine being enforced if caught cooking on the beach(or parking lot), but it isn't posted anywhere. [1] Many of the public lots are to-away zones after 11PM. [2] Dogs are allowed on the beach at certain times I think a sign said... cant find anything to support that. A well written blurb on things tourists should know before planning to come to the beach might save some people some aggravation and be valuable content. 208.90.100.64 (talk) 06:33, 19 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Manager of the Welcome Centre in Grand Bend: BYLAWS for the Municipality of Lambton Shores, in which Grand Bend is a town, can be found at http://www.lambtonshores.ca/en/our-government/bylaws.asp?_mid_=13544 - HOWEVER it might be more useful for visitors to the area to visit --http://www.lambtonshores.ca/en/things-to-do/grand-bend-beach.asp?_mid_=13779 for information OR www.grandbendtourism.com/faqs.

Starting with the 2017 year, no dogs are allowed on the Grand Bend Beach AT ANY TIME. We are told by the Municipality that this restriction is due to Blue Flag requirements and Grand Bend's beach has enjoyed Blue Flag beach status since 2009 - see also www.blueflag.org — Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.203.162.44 (talk) 14:42, 4 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
