What is the correct name of the UK's Olympic team?

[edit]

Is the UK's Olympic team "Great Britain" or "Great Britain and Northern Ireland"?

Olympedia vs. this article

[edit]

This article (Great Britain at the 1900 Summer Olympics) on 20 July 2024 shows GBR with these medals in 1900: 15 G, 7 S, 9 B. Another editor pointed that for 1900, Olympedia shows GBR with these medals in 1900: 20 G, 9 S, 10 B. Upon inspection, the differences are as follows.

Olympedia counts 5 more golds than Wikipedia for GBR in 1900:

  • Athletics 5000 meter team race (ZZX (mixed team) in Wikipedia)
  • Polo (ZZX in Wikipedia)
  • Water Polo (ZZX in Wikipedia)
  • Swimming - 200 m and 200 m obstacle (both won by Fred Lane (AUS))

In addition:

  • Olympedia counts a silver for GBR in Polo [ZZX], WP doesn't.
  • Olympedia counts a silver for GBR in tennis mixed doubles [Yvonne Prévost (FRA) • Harold Mahony (GBR)], WP doesn't.
  • Olympedia counts a bronze for GBR in tennis mixed doubles [Marion Jones (USA) • Laurie Doherty (GBR)], WP doesn't.

Note that neither this article nor Olympedia count the Fred Hildebrand silver in 25 km cycling for GBR (recently transferred to France), although this article does list it. Jeff in CA (talk) 00:12, 21 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Note that this page at Olympics.com shows GBR with these medals in 1900: 20 G, 8 S, 9 B. Jeff in CA (talk) 00:28, 21 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
