Shafer Peak is named after Willard G. Shafer. He was stationed in Antarctica in the 1960's.
A note regarding the Mount Kirkpatrick Formation
[edit]There is no Mount Kirkpatrick Formation; I suspect the author of the latter article was dealing with an unclear source somewhere along the line, and "formations on/of Mount Kirkpatrick" became "Mount Kirkpatrick Formation". There is a Kirkpatrick Basalt above the Prebble Formation, but that's not the same thing. J. Spencer (talk) 23:20, 1 August 2012 (UTC)
