Article extremely heavy on game guide material - discuss please?

[edit]

Contributors have set up the article, put down the bones as a template and really got it off to a flying start. Unfortunately, the BTN article is like many other HM articles, being more of a article/game guide combo. I'm going to start editting individual paragraphs to remove (some of) the game guide material and replace it with something more in keeping with wikipedia. This as opposed to 'gouging' the work of previous contributors. I'm a little concerned that there's no discussion about this here on the talk page, could other contributors post their thoughts so we can get some concensus? A lot of the material here fails wp:not, but my own texts aren't going to be perfect and I'd really like input. Looking forward to working on the article with you all. There's more guide material then I'd realised, and I'm not even sure that all the listed sections are notable. A lot of the text is also over-familiar and needs a good tweaking. I'm seeking advice before proceeding, with a focus on WP:BB. QuagmireDog 13:46, 27 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I agree; there is a lot of familiar game guide information in this article, and it seems far too specific. --Mattthemutt 22:58, 19 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Rewriting each section to remove game guide material

[edit]

I'm going to start with this now, one paragraph at a time. Could fellow contributors please refrain from adding/reposting game guide material, as it violates wp:not and renders the article redundant. QuagmireDog 16:41, 27 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

When editting 'other townsfolk', I've removed each NPC from text and have now listed them along with their profession and/or who they're related to. Personally, I don't believe that NPCs like these are notable within HM articles on wikipedia, since they're effectively a character graphic coupled with some lines of dialogue and a list of likes/dislikes - IE perfect for game guide material >.< . However, I've listed them within the article so contributors at least have a list of them to expand upon, should concensus be reached that they should stay. So in a nutshell: they're there 'just in case', rather than being a part of the article. QuagmireDog 21:24, 27 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Me again, finally finished collapsing the article into fewer sections, rewording and removing game guide stuffs, changing references to 'you' into 'the player' and basic tidying. I hope the contributors who built the article up will be satisfied with the new material and look. My next tasks are going to be:

  • Rewriting 'gameplay' so that it will mean something to non-HM players.
  • Double checking spelling.
  • Reading up on recommended practice on article tidying and acting upon that.
  • Locating some links and citing.
  • Adding images.
  • Working on the end of article - currently it just drops away.
  • Seeking a critical review/suggestions for improvement.
  • Porting contributors' work on the game guide material to the strategy guide wiki (it's saved in the history).

PSP Port

[edit]

Port of this and girl version for PSP has a confirmed US release. [1] for source.

Noted in article, will be redirecting Harvest Moon Boy & Girl to here. -- Jelly Soup 10:41, 27 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It is not the same game. These are two different games. Somebody please edit. -- Anon 8-6-07

Too much like walkthrough/FAQ

[edit]

As it has been stated several times, this is too much like a walkthrough/FAQ. So I am now going through paragraph by paragraph to turn it to be informative instead. Yes, I started with Mineral Town and Surrounding Areas, but I'll be continuing from the top now. Any objections? Acid 1 (talk) 22:44, 18 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
