[edit]no point of being part of hempstead as it's listed as its own branch.
Need section on second track west of Hempstead
[edit]As a train leaves Hempstead bound for Jamaica, once past the interlocking where the Hempstead station tracks consolidate, the train uses the left track while the track next to it, which has third rail power, dives beneath somewhere. Can someone add to the article to describe this track? Is it a storage track? As the train heads on the single track around a curve toward Country Life Press, a second track reappears to its right, is part of a street grade crossing, then merges with the main track. Is that the same second track?Raryel (talk) 07:10, 15 November 2022 (UTC)Raryel
- Nope, those are two different tracks. The one that appears to the right, going west, is the Garden City–Mitchel Field Secondary, a leftover lightly-used freight spur along the right-of-way of the abandoned Central Railroad of Long Island between Garden City and Farmingdale. The track near Hempstead station appears to be just a storage track and it doesn't continue anywhere north or west. Complex/Rational 13:19, 15 November 2022 (UTC)
This should be part of Central Railroad of Long Island or Central Branch
[edit]I moved this from the article; it's not quite relevant to the Hempstead Branch itself:
The reason for the high concentration of rail stations in the village of Garden City, can be traced back to the village's founder, Alexander Turney Stewart, who had initially created a railroad to service his town. The line west of Hempstead Crossing (between Garden City and Country Life Press stations) was once part of the Central Branch, which still exists from Bethpage southeast to Babylon. The former Central Branch ran through what is today Eisenhower Park, and portions of the trackage were in use up into the 1990s to carry freight into the Garden City and Uniondale areas, also known as Mitchel Field in the past. LIRR still uses a small portion of this line, east of Hempstead, as a place to store equipment, and each year the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus train uses this Garden City Secondary to reach the Nassau Coliseum.

- Anybody working on a Central Railroad of Long Island article? I'm going to incorporate some CRRLI history into the existing article on Hempstead (LIRR station). ---- DanTD 23:12, 24 July 2007 (UTC)
Stewart Road
[edit]Yesterday on my way from Queens Botanical Garden to New Hyde Park I found myself pedalling up Stewart Road in Queens Village. To my eye, the lay of the land made it look like the former front road above a rail line, or perhaps the reused rail line istelf. I saw no sign of an actual rail line, as expected after a hundred years of abandonment and suburban development. Was this the route of the Stewart Line? Jim.henderson 02:30, 24 July 2007 (UTC)
- There are quite a few links on Arrt's Arrchives that could give you some clues. ----DanTD (talk) 16:58, 11 October 2008 (UTC)
