Henry Gyles Turner family

Henry Gyles Turner was the husband of my 2nd great-grandaunt Helen Ramsay 1833-1913 so I thought I would add some information. Helen Ramsay's brother was Charles R Ramsay 1835- 1881 who married Elizabeth C Cayley 1836-1877. They had 2 sons and one daughter. I descend from the younger son William Ramsay 1863-1945. When William migrated to Melbourne he initially stayed at the HG Turner mansion in St KIlda. He then briefly went to Queensland, when he returned he started up his bookselling company in Melbourne - see page 63 'The Early Australian Booksellers.' This later became William Ramsay Surgical Booksellers, a listed company. I suspect HG Turner may have helped establish the company and with contacts. William married Maud Robinson 1837-1934. Her brothers included Gresham Robinson who established and was Principal of Essendon Grammar School (now Penleigh and Essendon Gramar School) after having been Head of other Schools including Carlton College and Llew Robinson who was Chief Librarian of the Supreme Court of Victoria. William and Maud had Helen Ramsay. She married Alexander Donald Gunn, son of the Hon John Alexander Gunn colonial scientist and politician, see https://www.parliament.nsw.gov.au/members/Pages/profiles/gunn_john-alexander.aspx After marriage Helen Ramsay and Alexander Gunn initially lived at Henry Gyles Turner summer 'retreat' at Dandenong. 2A00:23C8:2384:D801:F92D:7C24:76BE:7453 (talk) 12:35, 20 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
