Um, this article seems biased. And it doesn't make total sense. The reviewer seems to call "Le Jeune Martyr" pathetic, which is insane. I can't believe that this is what he/she meant.

I'm going to have to agree with the other comment, that's exactly why I originally clicked Discussion.

The article looks like it's primarily taken from the text of the 1911 Encyclopedia Britannica, and hasn't been updated. A lot can change in 95 years, including the standards for encyclopedia articles. studerby 21:30, 30 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

This article doesn't read in very good English, actually. It looks almost as if it's been partially added to by someone with a poor grasp of English to link excerpts from the Encyclopedia Britannica. The language could certainly do with polishing up as well as removing subjective opinion, both of which are certainly encapsulated in the following paragraph as taken from the article:

"Delaroche was not troubled by ideals, and had no affectation of them. His sound but hard execution allowed no mystery to intervene between him and his motif, which was always intelligible to the million, so that he escaped all the waste of energy that painters who try to be poets on canvas suffer."

There's actually nothing wrong with the grammar of that sentence. It's just obviously written by an academic. Can anyone add information about Delaroche's reaction to the invention of photography? I believe he pronounced it to be the death of painting, which is certainly significant enough to include in a biography. 38.118.23.100 (talk) 06:03, 6 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Delaroche's first "picture" it should say "painting" because, well, it's a painting. Not picture. Picture implies photograph. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 129.244.143.178 (talk) 20:16, 3 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Erm, yes, but it's hideously biased and has no place in an encyclopedia- I'm removing it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 130.132.128.159 (talk) 04:45, 21 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

According to Szarkowski, several of Delaroche's students became the first generation on French photographers. I would love to have more info on this painter in english. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.207.146.26 (talk) 01:44, 7 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Charles Gleyre

Article fails to mention that Charles Gleyre took over his studio in 1843 after his death. Viriditas (talk) 23:34, 19 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
