I used the blog site https://roadtoparnassus.blogspot.com/2019/05/the-old-murray-dunn-house-in-mentor-ohio.html for the pictures which I know from personal experience are accurate. Jbarrow51 (talk) 15:58, 10 March 2021 (UTC)
I'm hoping that anyone who might have more information on any of these estates would be willing to share it. Especially any photographs of the homes that don't have copyright restrictions.Jbarrow51 (talk) 13:30, 18 May 2021 (UTC)
I originally built this page using direct links wherever I could not knowing that Wikipedia discouraged that practice. I've removed them now so I am deleting the message.Jbarrow51 (talk) 13:38, 18 May 2021 (UTC)
Additional Estates being added
[edit]Based on further research, especially thanks to a Plain Dealer article from 1903 that mentions by name many of the wealthy Clevelanders who moved out to Lake County, I've added 2 more estates and will probably be adding 5-10 more after I've been able to research them in detail.Jbarrow51 (talk) 13:03, 10 June 2021 (UTC)
References
[edit]I discovered belatedly that references to the website findagrave.com is not allowed. I had referenced it often as I liked the way one reference lead the user to connecting links to other family members and clearly showed the relationship between them. I will need to go back and find other ways to site references to backup my statements.Jbarrow51 (talk) 13:06, 28 June 2021 (UTC)
Request for a possible minor correction
[edit]@Jbarrow51: Greetings and felicitations. Would please be so kind as to check the title of the reference "Alice Parmelle is Dead in Captial", and correct the spelling to "Capital" if that's how it appears in the original? That misspelling is what brought me to the article, and I don't have access to The Plain Dealer's archives, as I don't live in the Cleveland area and thus do not have the appropriate library card. If it's in the original, please be so kind as to insert a "[sic]
" so that it can still be verified, and I and others like me will know to ignore it (the "sic" will show up in the search results' preview). When you reply, please mention me, as I'm afraid I rarely check my Watchlist.
A similar but much smaller list which you may find of interest: North Shore (Long Island)#Extant Gold Coast estates.
Lastly, I see that you are a relatively new editor. You thus may find this page useful. —DocWatson42 (talk) 06:23, 14 July 2021 (UTC)
Hi @DocWatson42:, Thank you for the corrections and help. I was away last week so I didn't see your question until yesterday. I fixed the spelling in the reference title as it was a mistake on my part. I see you also fixed the way I was storing page numbers for newspapers references. I am new and still learning how Wikipedia works as I go but I dislike leaving so much garbage behind that others feel they have to clean up after me. It doesn't help that English was my worst subject in school. I'm pretty sure I have a form of dyslexia as I can look at a block of text and see what I want to see regardless of what's actually there. :) I find Wikipedia HELP less helpful because its so vast that I get lost following link to link to link. I'm much better at seeing how others use features and mimicking them. As an example I followed your link to the MENTION help page. I saw the helped section on Ping but it didn't register with me until I saw how you used it above. Thanks again for your help Jbarrow51 (talk) 12:32, 20 July 2021 (UTC)
ref name="hillandale_bridge"
[edit]I have referenced the webpage from a blog site https://euclidevolution.blogspot.com/2018/05/abandoned-hillandale-bridge-debunking.html for the reference name="hillandale_bridge". The information seems well researched and it has information and images that I've not been able to find in other sources. And nothing I've read on this page has been contradicted by other sources either. Jbarrow51 (talk) 15:28, 23 July 2021 (UTC)
Looking for additional Photo's that don't have Copyright restrictions.
[edit]Many of the Estates I have listed are missing a good photo. Either an old one or a current one would be fine. I'm hoping others who have access to additional Photo's, that don't have Copyright restrictions, will upload them or send them to me and I will upload them.
The Pinery
[edit]The Pinery caused me some issues as it started out as a smaller estate and then grew over time as the King children also built homes on the property. However, Fanny continued to live there until she died in 1949 which takes her ownership well out of the range of years my page is covering so I don't treat the children as separate owners. Unsure how to properly document when a new estate was carved out of a previous estate.
[edit]There are several large estates like Kingwood and Dellhurst that were created early in the time period this page covers that some time later in the time period were broken up into smaller estates. The house still exist with a significant amount of property but now large portions are parts of newer estates that also have large homes and lots of land. I suppose that some comment under the Estate Name column that the land had previous been a part of another estate may be enough. It would be nice if there was a way in the Map section to easily outline the boundaries of the estates and some way to show the changes of time. Jbarrow51 (talk) 15:52, 15 November 2021 (UTC)
