1926 no longer required anywhere

[edit]

The 1926 version of the international license/permit is no longer applicable to any country. The map should be revised and the 1926 should be removed as outdated. Brazil, Iraq and Somalia accept either 1949 or 1968, depending on the country. Mexico accepts the IDP as well. Furthermore I'm not aware that some country would still issue the 1926 type of documentation. Rasbelin (talk) 12:52, 22 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Size incorrect

[edit]

It is stated that the size is around that of a normal passport. This is incorrect; in Belgium it is 11x15 cm, this is far bigger (up to 3x the size) than the size of a regular (Belgian-issued) passport. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.245.183.148 (talkcontribs) 13:01, 4 December 2007

When is it needed?

[edit]

I would like to see a discussion as to when it is needed! For example, as a Swedish citizen, I am never asked for such a document when renting a car in the US. So why would I go through the hassle of getting one? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.224.44.171 (talk) 01:26, 23 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I've rented cars in the Netherlands, Switzerland, France, England, Jordan and Lebanon and always used my NJ license.

I also know that when folks come over from the Netherlands and Switzerland, they always use their local license and don't have an international license.

I would recommend to get the GPS (in English, yes you should specify) when renting overseas! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 192.245.246.12 (talk) 19:51, 1 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Countries Recognizing IDP

[edit]

I searched through many many pages in the WWW and also asked the embassy. But obviously the IDP is not recognized in Vietnam, or lets say, not recognized the way it is. It takes a lot of steps additionally (translating IDP, translating original drivers permission, healthcheck, a small driving test, etc. eg) to acquire a driving permission in Vietnam.

I am not so sure whether wikipedia should just easily write "Vietnam recognizes it" or should add a small section saying: "The IDP needs some more confirmation to be recognized, 1.) ... 2.) ... 3.) ...

The list of parties to the Geneva Convention slightly contradicts the map. Daimler Ben (talk) 13:49, 3 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

This entire section is in need of updates. There are multiple nations who are signatories to the 1949 convention (eg: Thailand) which should not require an IDP at all, but often do not currently recognize foreign licenses with or without one. Adherence to the UN convention is loose at best and travelers should be warned that explaining UN signatory status to local police at a traffic stop is unlikely to be productive. --Proaktivity (talk) 07:57, 10 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Inconsistent info of countries recognising IDP

[edit]

According to the Wiki page, Nigeria is among the countries that recognise the IDP, however the graphic at https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File%3ACountries_that_Recognize_International_Driving_Permit.svg?wprov=sfla1 indicates that Nigeria is among countries that don't recognise the IDP. This is confusing and needs to be corrected. > Ahmad Dan-Hamidu 14:00, 6 January 2019 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by A.danhamidu (talkcontribs)

Unclear map meaning

[edit]

I cannot find the difference between the dark and light blue colors on the map. Also, it may need to be replaced since it was uploaded in 2009. Penguin314 (talk) 23:35, 2 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Seconded. That map desperately needs a legend, right now it's very much unclear. If you're not going to explain your multiple colors, use a two color map instead. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A04:CEC0:C009:626F:4E68:1AAD:CB82:A48F (talk) 18:35, 31 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
