I am from First Baptist in North Middleboro and we recently celebrated out 250th anniversary. Does anyone know where the 1751 number as beginning of the church comes from?

Backus was the agent for the (Baptist) Warren Association. In this highly significant role, he lobbied for the separation of church and state in Massachusetts and the new nation. He also was a trustee of a fledgling fund for support Baptist ministry students. Lastly, he wrote many pamphlets and an early history of the Baptist denomination.
