- ... that Isaiah McKinnon, one of the first black officers in the Detroit Police, was attacked and nearly killed by a white fellow officer? Source: "Driving home one night, still in uniform and wearing his badge, he [McKinnon] was stopped by two white police officers. The lead officer approached the car, held a gun to his head and said: “Tonight you’re going to die, nigger.” He began to pull the trigger. Speeding away in his Ford Mustang convertible, pushing the accelerator with his right hand and steering with the other, McKinnon was shot at as he drove for his life." ([1])
- ALT1:... that Isaiah McKinnon, an African American, decided to join the Detroit Police after he was beaten by racist police officers? Source: "It was 1957 when 14-year-old Isaiah "Ike" McKinnon made the decision to become a Detroit police officer. It was a surprising decision given the beating he'd just suffered at the hands of the cops. But instead of turning against the police, McKinnon, who is African-American, decided to join them. " ([2])

- A compelling story. The article is long enough and new enough with no copyright violations. The hook is adequately cited and the QPQ requirement has been completed. Too bad a free image is not available. Recommend this DYK be fast-tracked to DYK/Q due to its timeliness. JGHowes talk 17:04, 7 July 2020 (UTC)
