Everton player 1887
[edit]In 1887 a James Cassidy was “signed” by Everton and appeared in the ill-fated FA cup matches against Bolton Wanderers in October and November 1887. After 4 matches, Everton defeated Bolton, going on to lose to Preston North End in the second round. Bolton lodged an appeal on the grounds that Everton had fielded two professional players. Everton were found guilty of providing financial inducements to seven players (including Cassidy) and the tie was awarded to Bolton.[1]
It is not clear whether or not this is the same Jim Cassidy who is the subject of the article - if so, Cassidy would have been only 17 at the time. Daemonic Kangaroo 18:31, 6 June 2007 (UTC)
