Starlight Award
[edit]I see no WP:NPOV issues or conflicts in listing Lanigan's Starlight Humanitarian Award amongst his other honors.
All it says in the article is that he won the award, and the year he won it. There's no editorial comments, or hidden agendas or anything else in the article to suggest anything other than "here's what he won, and here's when he won it".
The award itself is from a legitimate, long established, and well known charitable foundation in the Cleveland area.
So I see no reason why this award shouldn't be listed.

- If you are going to list the awards, limit to notable awards (i.e., those w/ articles, or given by organizations w/ articles). Levdr1lp / talk 17:44, 17 January 2014 (UTC)
- Let's have someone serve as a tiebreaker to see if any WP:NPOV issues are present or not. Vjmlhds (talk) 18:26, 17 January 2014 (UTC)
- This is not a vote, but a discussion based on policy. Merely listing every award the subject has been given without context, including those without evidence of notability, does not help readers hoping to learn more about this individual. WP:INDISCRIMINATE Levdr1lp / talk 18:29, 17 January 2014 (UTC)
- This is a policy issue...I'd just like to know if others think that the Starlight Award is within the bounds of WP:NPOV, because otherwise it's just you and me going round and round...what one sees as notable may not be notable to another, and all I'm looking for is to see is where I stand. A fresh voice sometimes is what's needed just to make sure everything's on the up and up. Vjmlhds (talk) 18:51, 17 January 2014 (UTC)
- All are welcome to contribute to help establish consensus. I think it's misguided to seek a "tie-breaker" -- consensus is not a tally of votes. Getting back to the discussion, has any media outlet reported on Lanigan receiving this award (aside from his own radio show's blog and the presenting organization's website)? Listing every award this individual has ever received, without regard to their importance, strikes me as promotional and non-neutral, and I've yet to see a convincing case otherwise. Levdr1lp / talk 19:03, 17 January 2014 (UTC)
- I found a reference from the Plain Dealer, where it had reported on Lanigan's Starlight Award. If it was notable enough to get a mention in the PD, then there shouldn't be a problem with including it here. Vjmlhds (talk) 20:05, 17 January 2014 (UTC)
- And also now joining the party is a reference from WEWS, which did a story on OLOTW and the Award ceremony, mentioning Lanigan's award win the year prior. Vjmlhds (talk) 20:41, 17 January 2014 (UTC)
- Ok, so there's a passing reference from the PD and an article on the channel 5 website -- both are local, neither establishes the award's notability. More importantly, does the award, or the presenting organization, have an article? No. So either convert the awards section content to prose or limit it to those w/ articles. Levdr1lp / talk 20:54, 17 January 2014 (UTC)
- We're not playing this game anymore...the one where every time I try to address any concerns you may have about an article with legitimate contributions, you just automatically strike it down and push the bar back further. Either get a third party in here to give an honest assessment, or just back off, because this is getting out of hand...and BTW, please don't remove sourced information from the article. Vjmlhds (talk) 22:04, 17 January 2014 (UTC)
- @Vjmlhds:-- I think I've made my point clear. And I also think your edits violate WP:NPOV and WP:NOTPROMOTION. You're clearly trying to stuff as many awards in that section as possible, regardless of how "well known and significant" they really are. The National Radio Hall of Fame induction is obviously worthy of being included in a bullet list of awards. The local charity nod? Please. You're merely inflating the importance of a local radio personality, albeit a well-known one. Levdr1lp / talk 22:42, 17 January 2014 (UTC)
- @Levdr1lp:-- And I think I've made my point clear...your accusations are baseless, there is nothing in the article that violates either WP:NPOV or WP:NOTPROMOTION, and quite honestly the more I look back on it, I think you were just looking to pick a fight. Because the note about the Starlight Award has been in the article for over 2 weeks since I first created the article, you have read and edited the article numerous times afterwords, and just NOW you have a problem with it? Vjmlhds (talk) 22:58, 17 January 2014 (UTC)
- @Vjmlhds:-- I think we need a cooling off. I'm done discussing this topic for now. Levdr1lp / talk 23:01, 17 January 2014 (UTC)
