Mensa

Since we don't actually know if John passed the test or not, he only mentioned that he took it, it doesn't make sense to add the line that he "decided" not to join. If he failed, then it wasn't his decision. JBK405 16:37, 27 May 2006 (UTC)

Your forgetting something. After Sheppard is done threatening Kolya but before they climb out of the cave, Rodney brings it up again and asks John if he passed, to which John says "Yes."

I checked the various fan transcripts online to make sure I wasn't misremembering. If I am, then at least a few others are misremembering as well. The conversation goes thus; Rodney: "I can't believe you never mentioned the Mensa thing." Sheppard: "I did the test. I never joined." Rodney: "But you passed?" Sheppard: "Yes." Why list episodes here?

Okay, this is basically part of my project to make WikiProject Stargate better referenced. Currently, I am going through character articles making episode lists, reffing transcripts in said lists, and adding external links on the characters in general to GateWorld and StargateWiki (though not all in one edit). I believe reffing transcripts in the articles is necessary because otherwise we are just referencing our own episode articles (most of which were uncited before I went through them). Additionally, having transcripts conveniently linked to from the article may make resolving accuracy disputes easier. Also, Alfakim believes that when referencing episodes, we should specify which series (SG-1 or Atlantis) they are from. (See Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Stargate#citing episodes - important.) Having a separate episodes list at the bottom accomplishes this without clogging up the main article. If you still disagree with this, please bring it up on Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Stargate, as it affects more than just this article. Armedblowfish 02:48, 29 May 2006 (UTC)

• The producers' and series creator's first choice of actor for the role of John Sheppard was Ben Browder, but due to filming conflicts (Browder was filming Farscape: Peacekeepers Wars), they cast Joe Flanigan for the role instead. Browder was later given the role of Cameron Mitchell on Stargate SG-1.

Just to make the point again, because people seem to throw this around a lot without bothering to comprehend it. WP:AVTRIV explicitly states to _AVOID_ having large trivia sections, not delete any trivia found if it cant be put into the article. In fact, AVTRIV says this as the only policy in regards to a trivia section:

Seek to minimize it, but meanwhile leave it in place as a raw store of facts for both readers and editors to work with

There is nowhere on the AVTRIV section that says that trivia can or will be removed unless it violates other Wiki policies and guides. Since it's not OR, is NPOV and appears to be cited by the original writer of the information, it cannot be removed and says that it _CAN_ be moved to the talk page for integration, not that it must or that it should.

Now it appears to have been cited however i cannot confirm the accuracy of the IMDB information, but i am opposed to removing a piece of important information that obviously cannot be integrated into the article and should not be left out of the main page if it is authentic. - Count23 10:05, 13 March 2007 (UTC)

Read this carefully: "Sections which contain facts to be merged into the main body of the article are a list of "facts pending integration" or "facts lacking sufficient context for integration". Seek to minimize it, but meanwhile leave it in place as a raw store of facts for both readers and editors to work with. However, it is possible to move a trivia section to the talk page to allow other editors to participate with discussing and integrating the information worthy of inclusion in the article. Some trivia is especially tangential or irrelevant, and may not warrant inclusion at all.

The section was tagged for some time and given adequate time for someone to provide context and add relevancy, obviously it cannot be merged and as there's no relevancy established still instead of reverting your re-integration I've moved it to the talk page. Matthew 10:20, 13 March 2007 (UTC)

You just proved my point for me, you can't just remove the trivia section arbitrarily, it says "possible" not "must" and on wikipedia, those actions are determined by consensus. Likewise, since the piece of information is not iirrelevent or tangental but directly related to the subject matter at hand, it deserves to be in the page. By your own admission and the copy from AVTRIV, the reference about Browder is a "fact lacking sufficient context for integration". QED. - Count23 10:47, 13 March 2007 (UTC)

Which is EXACTLY what i just highlighted in my previous comment. I admit i put it back up there on one of my "cleanup preemptive AVTRIV" runs without looking into too much detail into the IMDB sources it cites. At least we agree it goes back on the main page if it can be properly cited.

On a side note, having discussions like this is the real reason wikipedia exist, it's fun to argue about subjects you're interested in :) - Count23 11:07, 13 March 2007 (UTC)

Character Name

Unless you find a source that says something like "Stargate Atlantis' John Sheppard was named after a writer from McGyver", then it would be trivial information, and WP:TRIVIA says that trivia isn't really allowed.
