[edit]Due to being an obvious POV violation, I removed the wording "was a traitor to Mexico and her people" from the section about his signing the treaty with Spain.Kmerian (talk) 15:24, 14 April 2008 (UTC)
Almonte's role in saving Mrs. Dickinson
[edit]In the original text it was said: It was Almonte who was instrumental in saving the lives of Susanna Dickinson and her child Angelina. He persuaded Santa Anna to release her as a messenger of Texan defeat.. Then this part was removed due to the lack of sources. I have found something that might indicate that the information was correct. I think it can be incorporated in the text.
The source is: [1]
It states:
Susanna Dickinson's Recollections of The Alamo Siege
[...]
* She hid in a room of the chapel and did not see the battle. One defender ran into the room, followed by Mexicans who tossed him on their bayonets. [...] * A Mexican officer intervened, either an English mercenary named Black, or Almonte. [...] * The next day she was taken before Santa Anna, who was talked out of imprisoning her by Almonte. * She was sent east on a pony, with a black man whose name she gave variously as Ben or Joe. (She may have been too shaken to notice they were two individuals.)
