Succeeding
Luke Letlow is included in a vote for the 117th Congress at https://clerk.house.gov/members/L000555. Based on this information, shouldn't Julia be succeeding "Luke Letlow (elect)" despite the fact he was never sworn in? realPriceJRH (talk) 14:41, 1 April 2021 (UTC)
- He's not included in the vote. It says he wasn't there for the quorum, because he was deceased. Luke Letlow didn't take office, so Julia isn't "succeeding" him. – Muboshgu (talk) 15:48, 1 April 2021 (UTC)
While I agree that he wasn't there for the vote, the Clerk included Luke Letlow for LA-05. At https://clerk.house.gov/members/LA05/vacancy, LA-05's last office was called "The Office of Representative-Elect Luke J. Letlow." Maybe include Luke Letlow (elect) and under that put something along the lines of Ralph Abraham (last to serve). I just want to make sure the information presented here agrees with everything from the House of Representatives Office of the Clerk. realPriceJRH (talk) 18:28, 1 April 2021 (UTC)

Date of assumption of office
Based on both the official terms of service list [1] from the Clerk of the House and the Congressional Biographical Directory [2], the start date for House members elected in special elections starts on the date of their special election. This can be seen on many different articles across Wikipedia, such as Steve Scalise, Nancy Pelosi, or Don Young. The source for date of assumption of office doesn't even mention April 14th. GoldRingChip helpfully explained this to me back in 2019 for a previous special election, as prior to that I hadn't realized was how the clerk officially listed start dates.
