@Anthony Appleyard, Kurzon, and Crouch, Swale: I can't explain why this apparent contested technical request was closed a day later, but I have added the primary topic meaning to this disambiguation page, which was inexplicably missing. Shhhnotsoloud (talk) 19:26, 9 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
It looks like Anthony disagreed with it to begin with but then made the move. I personally don't think it was a good move, views [[1]] show that the chess article gets a comparable number of views and probably has more long-term significance. I would recommend reverting this move and re-opening it. Crouch, Swale (talk) 19:35, 9 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Crouch, Swale: I don't think view counts are necessarily the best way to decide what the primary definition should be (although I agree it should be taken into consideration). I think the wargame should be considered the main definition of kriegsspiel, because in the breadth of English literature, that's what the usage of the term refers to. Kurzon (talk) 19:40, 9 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe we could move Kriegspiel (chess) to Kriegspiel if the single and multiple "s" in the name is sufficient. Crouch, Swale (talk) 19:43, 9 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Crouch, Swale: I don't think we should do that, because the difference is just a typo. Such a change will likely confuse readers. Kurzon (talk) 20:09, 9 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
If they have different spelling then that should be enough, see Holburn/Holborn and WP:SMALLDIFFS but I suppose I should start a RM for that. Crouch, Swale (talk) 20:15, 9 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Crouch, Swale:Well, I suppose legally you could go ahead and do that on those grounds, but I would not recommend it.
Another reason not to do this is that the chess variant isn't the only thing that is named "Kriegspiel" [sic]. A bunch of other games carry that name too. Kurzon (talk) 22:05, 9 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
But we don't have articles on the games, so unless they are notable, they aren't much consideration. Crouch, Swale (talk) 22:09, 9 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
