Courtney Love Murder Conspiracy B.S.

I removed a line about faked suicide from the first paragraph. I loathe Courtney Love as both an actress and a "musician"...but calling her a murderer without a bit of proof is wrong. 65.248.164.214 (talk) 16:43, 27 March 2008 (UTC)

PS: The person who wrote the lie is 216.109.11.194 65.248.164.214 (talk) 16:47, 27 March 2008 (UTC)

Although the word murder is certainly too strong, due to the lack of evidence, the article does need to address the suspicious circumstances of his death, such as: ...forensically questionable suicide note, ...the lack of an autopsy and rushed cremation, ...the fact that the detective hired by Courtney Love came to the conclusion (based on taped conversations) that something was amiss ...and finally the fact that one of the reasons there is no evidence (aside from the dubious note) to support either suicide or murder is that the scene of the incident was thoroughly forensically contaminated due to poor management by law enforcement.

The word suspicious is merited. However, pointing fingers is not. Annoyed with fanboys (talk) 06:41, 12 August 2008 (UTC)

NO. The word suspicious is NOT merited unless offical authorities like the police or the cornoner describe it as suspicious. This article is not a place for insinuations and weasel words. Calling it suspicious based soley in the opinions of Wikipedia editors is giving undue weight to the conspiracy theory. Asarelah (talk) 21:05, 12 August 2008 (UTC)
Experts have given opinions on the note and the final four lines being inconclusive, as was aired on dateline NBC, Unsolved Mysteries, etc... I'm not going to edit the page, as I am a newer user, but to just ignore the fact that there is circumstantial evidence corraborated by experts, besides Tom Grant, and the fact that members of Cobain's family do believe that he was murdered is a little skepticalPericolaso (talk) 00:42, 17 October 2008 (UTC)
Furthermore, the official authorities have their own problems with the truth, given how the lead investigator in the Cobain case, the same man who declared it a suicide, later resigned from the Seattle PD for fraud, and the coroner who conducted the autopsy commited suicide. There are a lot of weird things about this particular case that shouldn't be overlooked, regardless of what the final verdict should be.Pericolaso (talk) 17:46, 17 October 2008 (UTC)

I doubt that she had anything to do with his death physically. But, on the emotional side, she is beyond guilty. Anyone thats read Heavier than Heaven or any other sort of biography would know that. Its obvious that there was trouble in paradise so I do believe calling her a murderer is just fine. Ashleysayshello (talk) 15:38, 19 October 2008 (UTC)

Must've been some typos, then when I saw that before. 24.192.136.238 (talk) 00:57, 25 February 2008 (UTC)

His official name was Cobain, everyone in his family used it like that, but he did use the pseudonyms/misspellings of "Curt Cobain", "Kurt Kobain" and "Kurdt Kobain".

Yeah I've read his biography and his birth name is "Kurt Cobain" but on the album Incesticide and on some autographs he used the pseudonym "Kurdt Kobain" because it was his way of distancing himself from the fame he achieved in his mind.

Missing person report

Just to elaborate my removing it -

I had a major problem with the editor's note that was included with what was there. Notes shouldn't be used to inject an opinion as to why something shouldn't be changed - they should only be used where some kind of overriding consensus exists.

"A person claiming to be Cobain's mother" still implies that it wasn't Cobain's mother, and the reality is that we don't have any idea who it was. Reliable sources (including Rolling Stone) say it was O'Connor. Grant says it wasn't. The available scan of the report has the submitter's name blacked out. While it might be notable that it claims that Cobain had a shotgun and might be suicidal, the fact that we don't know who wrote it renders it problematic - we don't know who's making the claim.

And it falls to the POV of his death. If O'Connor wrote it, then a member of Cobain's family was concerned that he was suicidal. If Love wrote it, then it could be (and has been) extrapolated to mean any a number of things.

In the grand scheme of things, that report is not notable enough in the timeline to justify the back and forth of its POV. If mentioning it is important, I suspect it ought to go in the Death article, where we can discuss the issues around it without expanding the timeline here and without injecting one POV over another. -- ChrisB (talk) 04:39, 28 February 2008 (UTC)

Drug Addiction

The article claims that Cobain "overdosed the night of the first SNL performance." It states IN Azerrad's book, Come As You Are, that in fact it was a case of cotton fever, in which a stray strand of cotton from the tip of the needle is accidentally injected, resulting in sickness. Also, it happened before the taping of the show, and that's why Cobain's eyes appear "sunken in."

It's all in Come As You Are, and someone needs to update this. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.241.122.118 (talk) 02:24, 2 March 2008 (UTC)

Shotgun inaccuracy

Please lose this, it says Kurt Cobain was found with a shotgun lying by his side, NOT TRUE. The police report states "there is a [shotgun] between the victim's legs with the barrell pointed towards his head and the left hand wrapped around the barrell." In no way can that be said to be lying at his side. 62.136.44.131 (talk) 03:55, 28 March 2008 (UTC)

Artist

Just wanted to draw this into discussion.

Someone recently rewrote the first sentence to be "Kurt Cobain was an American musician and artist" (emphasis mine).

I don't think there's any argument that Cobain was an artist. My issue with the new version is this: Cobain is not widely recognized for his art. Many fans are aware that his art graces the cover of Incesticide and the back covers of Nevermind and In Utero. But his artwork isn't widely recognized beyond those few pieces, nor could most people identify him as the artist of those pieces. He was certainly an artist, but I'm not sure that the recognition for it is notable enough to warrant mention in the first sentence, particularly when the first sentence focuses so heavily on his music. (Regardless, vaguely citing HTH as a source for the statement is not suitable.)

Having said that, I do think it might be worth adding a short piece about his artistic endeavors, specifically about said cover artwork.

Just wanted to see how others felt. -- ChrisB (talk) 01:47, 14 April 2008 (UTC)

Aritist is another word for musiciacan; It doesn't just apply to art (as in the drawing, painting, ect.). But I do agree that there should be a section about his artwork. In Journals, theres a lot of good samples that show his drawing talents. Ashleysayshello (talk) 15:43, 19 October 2008 (UTC)

Probably the water at the hotel here in So Cal. That place used to be owned by a guy who also owned a nuclear waste disposal plant near Las Vegas. Kurt stayed on the 4th Floor next to the elevator as well. I've had a lot of stomach problems there too, but mostly I think they stem from the coffee (2 cups) I drink there every day. Some people, though, do get problems there rather frequently; and I've noticed, there is an unusual amount of brownish calcium buildup in the bottom of the pot in which I boil my water. The City of LA, of course, will never own up to the sundry health violations that they allow to go on at all times. If they did, there would be massive lawsuits filed against thier greedy butt. Anon. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.134.110.154 (talk) 00:15, 17 April 2008 (UTC)

Sorry about not signing, but that wouldn't be safe. I believe the name of the guy who owned the hotel was a Kishner, brother, son or cousin to the one-and-only Irwin Kishner, co-founder of Las Vegas itself. I'm not sure if Kurt lived there when Damacio Yberra Torres lived there in February 1993, the guy who shot up the LA County USC Hospital. He lived on the 4th floor too, but on the opposite side of the building. The LAPD said that Damacio's room was full of guns after they had to search it due to the homicide nature of his offense. That's what I thought was rather strange. I mean, why did he leave all those guns there, shouldn't he have distributed them to his fellow gang members?

The notes that Courtney wrote to Kurt were written on the backs of the so-called "notices" that the hotel has always had the habit of posting there (up until lately) [cf. the notes written by Courtney in "Journals"; you'll see they were often written on the back of something else]. If I get the time, I can scan one of those notes so you can see what the front of one of them looks like. No detective has ever talked to me though, which I also think is rather strange.

Kurt Cobain movie

The movie--"Last Days" (2005) stared Michael Pitt in a reminiscent role of Kurt Cobain's life and career. How could Kurt walk around in his home, city and its area--without being mobbed by his fans? Is there someone who really knew Kurt Cobain at this time, that could add any information has to just how accurate that movie depicted his behavior and mental state? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 207.177.90.103 (talk) 15:28, 8 May 2008 (UTC)

I believe Gus Van Sant was trying to "artfully" make his own interpretation. It is an extremely inaccurate movie in terms of Kurt's life. It seems like an Indie film without a cause.

The last days of Kurt's life were spent with him, alone in his head, wondering about the area. He doesn't look like a rockstar, especially in the state he was in, so he wasn't bothered.

Maybe if he had been, he'd still be with us today. R.I.P Kurt. --Thatpeachgirl7 (talk) 06:01, 23 November 2008 (UTC)

I would agree but I don't know how many verifiable sources there are out there on the subject. Some has included the text of Kurt's suicide note at the end of the "Musical Influences" section. Kurt is DEAD!

I compiled this e-zine, in 1994, based on postings to alt.music.nirvana (which had just been created) and articles submitted to me in the hours and days immediately after kurt's death. There's some good stuff in it. Wikipedia's guidelines don't allow me to submit it as an external link... and I'm not sure it belongs here or under the Kurt Cobain's Death article (which seems to have some controversy associated with it). Kurts ashes

It had been added to the article that kurts ashes have been stolen. This was added from a blog, and should be better sourced. But we can't assume his ashes were stolen, the KIRO TV news stated that "A representative of the Los Angeles Police Department said she could not find any police report about the matter." And this raises doubts about whether or not this is true. I think it would be okay to say that Courtney Love claims that his ashes were stolen, but not outright say they were since many media sources are remaining nuetral towards their belief in her claims. Look up the KIRO TV report and you'll get an idea of it all. QuirkyAndSuch (talk) 08:58, 14 June 2008 (UTC)

Actually, that's not true. There were rumours that he was unrecognisable, but this was apparently due to the fact that a photograph showed his driving licence propped up against his body for identification, but this was later claimed to be a coincidence, and that it had just been 'put there' by a detective, with no ID intent. Other reports said that his 'instantly recognisable' face was fully intact. I don't have the source for this, but it is definitely out there somewhere. I don't think the link provided above is at all reliable, it looks to be a fansite. Sky83 (talk) 10:12, 12 February 2009 (UTC)

RESPONSE:

Actually you can search for a scanned copy of "kurt cobain death certificate" and it says "self inflicted shotgun wound" and the other section says "contact perforating shotgun wound to head" Sooooooooo just google that, as it seems every one has a copy these days and you will see you are 100% wrong.

Here's One: Kurt death certificate-mandatory [9] —Preceding unsigned comment added by Voidenter (talkcontribs) 03:14, 21 February 2009 (UTC)

You can't possibly make a determination of that nature from the death certificate. Produce a medical examiners report and you have yourself a deal, we'll put some info from that in here, but I think you will find that his face was intact. The back of his head was no doubt a mess, but from witness reports, his face was, for a 72 hours plus corpse, relatively good. For the purposes of the article though, this isn't really a detail that is going to change much. If you can find a report that proves his face was badly messed up, go ahead and report it here, I have absolutely no objections, but you can't base that on a death certificate, you need some kind of autopsy/crime scene report. Sky83 (talk) 09:23, 21 February 2009 (UTC)

Someone edited the words 'ear', 'shotgun' and 'chin' in the death section to become 'vagina', 'dildo' and 'vagina' respectively. Please Fix? Would do it myself but not very experienced (ie. couldn't find the edit link :P). Thanks.

His feud with Axl Rose isn't mentioned?

I find that a bit odd, since not only is it mentioned in Axl Rose's article, it even has its own section. If it's notable enough to be mentioned in Rose's article, surely it should notable enough to mention it on Cobain's article? --Crackthewhip775 (talk) 01:23, 6 February 2009 (UTC)

Probably true, it should be mentioned, but then Axl Rose had feuds with everyone at some point or another, he has never been a particularly happy bunny, let's face it. Sky83 (talk) 10:13, 12 February 2009 (UTC)

Bad/Insufficient Pictures

The pictures in this article really don't seem to represent Kurt Cobain fully. There are only 2 pictures in the whole article; one of them is of him as a kid and you can barely see his face in the other. That picture is also used in the Nirvana article and it should be replaced on that article too. I suggest using one of the following photos as the main image:

[10] or [11] or [12]
The last one may need to be cropped a little but otherwise, they would all be suitable. I just think the article of such an influential person should have more pictures, and pictures where you can actually see his face properly. If someone had never heard of Kurt Cobain and they went on this article, they probably wont find out what he looked like even after reading the whole article. --Omarraii (talk) 20:39, 18 April 2009 (UTC)

If you're sure those pictures aren't copyrighted, which I'm fairly sure they are, then go ahead. Sir Richardson (talk) 21:03, 18 April 2009 (UTC)

I would change it myself, except I'm not very good at editing (especially when adding images). I would be very grateful if somebody who knows what they're doing adds the pictures to the article. --Omarraii (talk) 13:35, 20 April 2009 (UTC)

Why is the pending divorce with Courtney Love not mentioned, the fact that Kurt Cobain's credit card was used after April 5th, when they concluded that he had died, that he was injected with 3 times the lethal dose of heroine and then shot himself?

Animosity, not Amnosity

The article discusses Kurt's "amnosity" with his band and Axl Rose. I think the word is "animosity." The wording is a little wonky as well. Death on April 4

Kurt Cobain died sometime in the evening of April 4 in order to associate himself with double #4, it's important somebody points that out as he has not been seen after April 3. As far as blood goes, murder & other bs I say put those rumors to rest for good. Love did not kill him.

She hired Tom detective who only overcharges people, you cant even talk to him without a fee, but that's how lawyers are, pathetic, cheap!

She only said contradictory statements where she was what she was doing, even managed to ger herself arrested, she is never on point since she was born. As far as why there is no blood? Hey, wake up, he was lying there for 4 days and blood will dissipate pretty fast, certainly weather is humid in this part of the world. so over time, liquids dry up. Simple as that. His mistake (except killin himself) was not leaving note with exact time.

This seems to be an issue for the Death of Kurt Cobain page. mheart (talk) 21:27, 24 November 2009 (UTC)

Introduction

The second paragraph of the article's introduction is merely copy and pasted from Nirvana's article and edited slightly to refer to Cobain individually. We must write a new one entirely about his career as a musician and with Nirvana. Sir Richardson (talk) 16:20, 16 November 2009 (UTC)

Page structure

Hello!

I've added in some structuring. The new sections for Kurt's marriage, health, the birth of Frances Bean Cobain, et cetera are all a part of this process. The later sections in this article need to continue the process since those sections are very lengthy reads. We can also possibly cull down on the Death section since there's already an article specifically on it.

Grammar Error

In the third paragraph of the section titled "Lyricial and artistic content," "effected" should be replaced by "affected". To effect means to do; to affect means to influence. 19towerapt35 (talk) 17:43, 19 December 2009 (UTC)

Origin of the Cobain family.

I believe Kurt was mistaken about the true origin of his family. Cobain is a perfectly legitimate surname in Northern Ireland. It is not very common however. I am not sure if it is a pure Irish surname or of Scottish origin. It looks Scottish, however, and all Cobains listed in the 1911 Irish Census are Protestant, so I would suggest the latter is more likely. Also, in Heavier than Heaven, it is stated that the Cobains emigrated from Co. Tyrone around 1875. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 204.13.204.194 (talk) 22:03, 5 January 2010 (UTC)

I wouldn't say it's uncommon, there are a quite high number of Cobains in some upper-class protestant parts of Northern Ireland

The imaginary friend of Kurt Cobain. It's origin goes all the way back to when Kurt was a kid, he was the prime suspect for the torture of his neighbour's cat, but when asked about it he said that Boddah did it. Also, Kurt Cobain never wrote a suicide note to Boddah, or any suicide note for that matter. If you were to read into it, the suicide note had no mention of him killing himself or anything about suicide until the end, but the end had a different handwriting than Kurt's. Also, Courtney Love was found with handwriting samples of Kurt's and what looked like practice hand writing of hers that matched that of the suicide note. Also, how is someone with that much heroin in their system supposed to be able to have the coordination to pull a shotgun trigger with their foot with their shoe on? MURDER!

Citation Request

I see someone issued a citation request for the statement:

...Cobain has been regarded by many journalists and listeners as one of the greatest musicians of his generation, his groundbreaking influence enduring to this day.

Frankly, it's hard to imagine how this couldn't be accepted as a given, but we have to think ahead 100 years when Nirvana's effect on music isn't as readily apparent. In fact, with dozens of reputable sources declaring Cobain and Nirvana analagous to the Beatles/Elvis/Michael Jackson/etc. in their influence on music, I don't see any reason why this claim can't be punched up a bit (ie. ...as one of the most influential musicians in history... ). We should probly toss up atleast 3 sources with such a statement though.

On an unrelated matter, I clearly remember a journalist describing Cobain as 'the reluctant spokesperson of generation X'. Since I read it (years ago), I've always considered it a profoundly accurate summary of his personality and legacy. It would be fantastic if someone could track down the source and incorporate it into the lead somehow. Great work on the article to this point though.

Thank you very much for your input, this article frankly does not at all have enough of it. It's very much a shame to see the article of such a prodigus figure, in the context of popular music, to be so undermining of himself and his work. I agree with your sentiments on the lead, which in my opinion needs to be written entirely, as far too much of it consists of only copied and pasted text from Nirvana's. Family Background

The article currently states "Despite being raised by working-class parents, his family had a musical background." This is strange and pretty offensive. Kurt starting with drums, he was much more interested in drums than guitar. He played drums at school, I've seen a picture of. He started playing guitar because he couldn't sing and play drums together. I've read that in numerous articles and books. This a well-known and established fact. If it's a biography about Kurt Cobain, you would be ridiculous for not mentionning it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.199.61.23 (talk) 21:50, 27 July 2010 (UTC)

Kurt Cobain is not homosexual!

Its true that he said he was bisexual until he married Courtney Love until 1992 but he was never homosexual. When he was in High School a friend he met was homosexual he didnt know at first but he noticed that other students looked at him wierd in the hallways since he started hanging out with his new friend and he watch him get picked on a lot he would protect him. One night his friend made a move on him and he was shocked and pushed him away. The days afterwards he wouldn't talk to him after that since it was just plain akward. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.243.116.189 (talk) 23:42, 11 April 2009 (UTC)

You're right, he wasn't homosexual, he was bisexual - MrGuy

You don't know that he was bisexual. He contradicted himself and lied a lot. He said that he COULD be bisexual, and liked to lead people on. He french kissed Chris on stage to annoy homophobes and he definitely liked the idea of gayness or bisexuality as some kind of form of rebellion. But you can't say that "he was bisexual" because there is no proof of that. Wikipedia should just post his quotes and let the reader decide for themselves.

That Cobain "liked the idea of gayness or bisexuality as some kind of form of rebellion" may be true but understates the point, I think. He wasn't just taking a "hip" stance; he was actively on the side of gays, standing up against prejudice. Anyone who hates gays should hate him, too, which I think was his larger point. --CAVincent (talk) 15:19, 17 April 2010 (UTC)

Cobain said that he "began to become really proud of being gay even though he wasn't"; I'm not 100% on when this was but I'm sure that it was around about the time he was following The Melvins and in the very early days of Nirvana --Connelly90[AlbaGuBràth] (talk) 13:26, 20 August 2010 (UTC)

This is all kind of sad. I guess I thought Nirvana fans would by and large be more open minded here and it wouldn't be so contested that Kurt Cobain once said, "If not for Courtney, I probably would've carried on with a bisexual lifestyle." While Kurt never apparently uttered the exact words "I am bisexual," that statement right there implies that he had indeed carried on a bisexual lifestyle before meeting Courtney Love. And it should be noted that this comment was not at random; it was a comment made to The Advocate, the nation's biggest gay and lesbian magazine, for the cover story on Kurt Cobain. He also did utter the words that he was "gay in spirit." Further, in 1992 he provided support for the "No on 9" campaign for the anti-gay ballot in Oregon called Measure 9. It's interesting that despite all of this, there is no mention of his bisexuality -- or at least his allegiance to the LGBT community -- in this article. I hadn't realized some people were so homophobic. http://pioneergrrrl.tripod.com/advocateinterview.html — Preceding unsigned comment added by 172.190.75.30 (talk) 07:23, 27 November 2011 (UTC)

Actually, in the official come as your are biography, he claims he was misquoted and that he wasn't actually bi. Not that it matters. Asarelah (talk) 17:15, 28 November 2011 (UTC)
