One of two in Toronto

[edit]

I have to continue to object to this statement unless a source can be found that states this verbatim. In addition to the Old Finch bridge, there is one on Twyn Rivers[1] and one on Meadowvale.[2] as well as any others that I haven't found in the ravine system. The source added to the article only states that this is the last remaining bailey bridge in the former City of Toronto, not the new city. - ʄɭoʏɗiaɲ τ ¢ 02:37, 27 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

You mean one more like this. Exit2DOS CtrlAltDel 02:57, 27 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Although I do not trust Now, and have a huge hankering that they based it off this[3], I cannot provide a source for the other bridges. - ʄɭoʏɗiaɲ τ ¢ 03:37, 27 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I believe your looking at Beam bridges, meaning the ends rest upon an abutment. A Bailey could (in a loose sense) be considered freestanding. They gain no structural support from the ground on either end. See this simplified diagram. Exit2DOS CtrlAltDel 06:04, 27 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Here you can see it slightly better. The riverbank does not extend under the bridge. Exit2DOS CtrlAltDel 06:18, 27 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
