Merger proposal[edit]

I propose that Laksam Railway Junction be merged into Laksam Upazila. The junction station is already covered in the upazila article. Any additional station information for which a source can be established can easily be explained in the context of transport in the upazila. The upazila article is of a reasonable size so that expanding the station information in it will not cause any problems as far as article size or undue weight is concerned.

Unless the station stub, which is completely unreferenced, is either merged or improved to the point where it satisfies the notability guidelines, it is in danger of being deleted. Worldbruce (talk) 07:50, 8 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

no Disagree Although these two articles size is very tiny but laksam upazilla and Laksam railway junction are quiet two different things. These two articles should be expanded not merged. ferdous (Chat!) 18:12, 8 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Ferdous: I'm not suggesting that the upazila and junction are the same thing, or that the articles aren't large enough.
Wikipedia has notability guidelines for determining whether a topic should have its own article. The most fundamental is the general notability guideline, which says that an article is justified if there is significant coverage in multiple, reliable, independent, secondary sources. If there is no such coverage, "it should not have a separate article."
It would be wonderful if Laksam Railway Junction could meet the notability inclusion criteria and be expanded, but so far no sources have been identified, let alone multiple, reliable, independent, secondary ones containing significant coverage. Another solution would be to delete Laksam Railway Junction. If nominated, it would likely be deleted at the end of 7 days unless advocates of keeping it could produce solid sources (see Wikipedia:Arguments to avoid in deletion discussions). A third solution, and the one I prefer, would be to merge the junction into another article. A junction or station is usually merged into the article on the company operating the railway line or the geographic place where it is located.
Merging has the advantages of preserving all content and leaving behind a redirect. With the redirect, if anyone searches for Laksam Railway Junction they will be taken to information about it in the surviving article. If at some later date sufficient appropriate sources are found, the topic can easily be split off into its own article again. Worldbruce (talk) 06:53, 10 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
