Refering to Lauren and Heidi by last name?

I don't think anyone calls them that, so maybe we can edit to Lauren and Heidi as the show calls them?

Article tagged...needs improvements

I've tagged this article for several reasons. While most of it is well written and sourced, some sections sound like an opinion or advertisement for Lauren's clothing line. It's fine to mention it, but I don't think an entire description of it is needed. I've also tagged some statements that are pure speculation and have no place in the article, for instance:

While Lauren and Heidi may never be friends again, she has been picking up the pieces of all her former Laguna friends again. While Lauren and Jason dated, Conrad lost touch with close friends from Laguna such as Lo, Stephen, Trey and Deiter. Since the breakup, Lauren has rekindled friendships with all former friends. Conrad and former friend, Jen Bunney, have also re-established their relationship after a fight when Bunney hooked up with Conrad's then boyfriend, Brody Jenner

That sounds like someone guessing to me, and it's also not appropriate to refer to a subject by their first name unless it's for clarity. I'll leave the statements up for now and unless someone has a huge issue with it, I'll correct the mistakes in about a week or so (this means removing the stuff that sounds suspect per WP:NPOV, Unreferenced Article Cleanup, and Wikipedia:Cleanup) unless someone rewrites and sources the statements properly. Lauren died?

The text says that Lauren died of Malaria - this is not true!

Lauren Katherine Conrad (born February 1, 1986), often referred to as "L.C.", is an American television personality and an aspiring fashion designer. She is best known for being featured in the MTV reality series Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County and for her spin-off show, The Hills, which follows her personal and professional life as she pursues a career in the fashion industry. Lauren died of Malaria on May 22 2008 which was portrayed on The Hills by being hit by a bus in the opening episodes of the new series. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 194.201.48.2 (talk) 15:37, 11 June 2008 (UTC)

What a jerk. Whoever typed that needs to be slapped.74.195.5.185 (talk) 05:31, 13 October 2008 (UTC)

She makes $1.5million annually

What a completely stupid thing to say. Who gives a flying f**k? Is this in here to give her credibility? How would anybody know this to put it in here? Did she tell somebody or did she write it herself? Absolutely absurd.--12.191.244.10 (talk) 03:42, 15 July 2008 (UTC)

There is a citation following the text. The editor who added that apparently read it on Forbes.com. --skew-t (talk) 05:54, 15 July 2008 (UTC)

I'm tired of deleting it, so please stop adding salary info unless it is referenced. Every time that it is added, it is a different amount, so apparently people keep coming up with different numbers and none have been referenced. --Terrillja (talk) 21:51, 12 October 2008 (UTC)

A biography should contain as much relevant, true, verified info about that person's life. If she (or anyone else who has a biography) really does have an income that high, and there is a reliable source that states it, it should be included; it is a very relevant part of the subject's life. Nietzsche 2 (talk) 08:25, 7 April 2009 (UTC)
Sure, if it is sourced. So far it hasn't been when it comes to salary.--Terrillja talk 13:01, 7 April 2009 (UTC)

There is a source for the $1.5 million estimate but as of right now, it didn't appear. I added the source, which is the Forbes.com article mentioned above. While the estimate is four years old (as of my writing), it could be considered relevant if one is wishing to understand her "value" as of 2008. Separately, there is no source for the claim that she increased sales of Teen Vogue, so I have removed that. JohnAKeith (talk) 05:20, 10 July 2012 (UTC)

Writing Style

This article seems like it was written by a publicist; promoting a squeaky clean image and neglecting facts like her relationship with Kyle Howard, for example. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.198.140.206 (talk) 15:29, 18 May 2009 (UTC)

Comment

on my recent edit: she was known as LC in laguna. the hills was "lauren". this is not controversial information. maybe you don't like the form of the edit, but the content is legit. I prob worded it weird or used parenthesis awkwardly for an opening line but she was never called "LC" after laguna by persons. I believe the opening credits of the show would comport. I've taken the liberty of changing the title of this section as it is wholly inappropriate. If you wanted to get my attention, mission accomplished, but a note on my talk page would have been just as effective. In the future, some diffs might actually be helpful when you talk about your "recent edits" as your "recent" was about six days ago and there were several edits since yours. Since you didn't leave an edit summary explaining your edit when you did it, odds are I rolled it back along with several other unexplained edits. This article receives its fair share of vandalism and unsourced additions so edit summaries are helpful to those who watch the page regularly. Pinkadelica 21:05, 3 July 2009 (UTC)

Reviewer: Zanimum (talk · contribs) 21:11, 27 April 2013 (UTC) Okay, I'm going to take this article on. -- Zanimum (talk) 21:11, 27 April 2013 (UTC)

This is a fairly solid article. It's fairly tightly written summary of Ms. Conrad's career, focused on the key facts, with a strong footing in reality, as opposed to reality. Very nice lead photo. I've changed a few small things already, mostly just challenges to the content; please feel free to contest any of them.

  • I'd suggest dropping the reference after the first section. It's widely proven by the rest of the article, so it's not terribly needed.

Done, I'm assuming you mean the one about Laguna Bach High School, so that has been removed.

  • “After moving to Los Angeles in 2006, Conrad was commissioned her own spin-off television series”: that's confusing wording.

 Done, reworded.

  • Any critical reception to The Lauren Conrad Collection, or sales stats? Anything to provide insight into why it was so finite? Also, that reference was published at the launch of the collection, we need something to prove she ended the line in 2009.

 Done, expanded.

  • Was there any official comment on why the 2010 series wasn't picked up? Just something to close that chapter of her career in the article. Was it ratings? Was it that she was too well adjusted of a reality star for MTV's tastes?

Done, MTV wanted more of her personal life.

  • The talk page has a comment criticizing the article for glossing over her relationship with Kyle Howard. Is there anyway this can be addressed, without tabloiding up the article too much?

Done, the majority of coverage of their relationship was gossipy, so I added a mention of how he thought being on The Hills would ruin his career and that it was never covered on the show.

  • Ref 46, most of the books link to the official HarperCollins websites, but this one links to B&N. Is there no official page left? I'd suggest perhaps WorldCat, for a non-commercial link.

 Done, several replaced with WorldCat.

I was only really expecting the B&N one to be replaced; the publisher's website did have plot descriptions, which WorldCat lacks. Really, both could coexist. Either way is fine though. -- Zanimum (talk) 20:52, 6 May 2013 (UTC)
  • Ref 51, Is there any other reference for this statement, as “Saralisaa” doesn't sound terribly reliable as a source. I don't personally object, but others might.

 Done, replaced.

Thumbs up so far. -- Zanimum (talk) 20:14, 4 May 2013 (UTC)

Impressive updates, very neutral, factual. IMDb claims that she was Choice Reality Star in 2006 and 2007, is that true? Otherwise, it's a pass. -- Zanimum (talk) 20:52, 6 May 2013 (UTC)

Funny you mention that, because it was in the article but I couldn't find a reliable source to keep it at the time of the nomination. After a little bit of digging, I found a reference that confirms the awards. Thank you for taking the time to review the page, I appreciate it! WikiRedactor (talk) 20:48, 7 May 2013 (UTC)
I've had that happen myself, search forever for a source, find nothing, then suddenly something clicks and you can find it.
Congrats, it's now a GA. Strong showing, WikiRedactor! (I have to admit I'm tempted to take on another of your GANs, since this one was so smooth.) -- Zanimum (talk) 23:05, 7 May 2013 (UTC)

Probably factually inaccurate and also poorly written with several spelling errors.
