Democratic Party (United States)[edit]

The Democrat Party is a broad party that encompasses left wing to center right with progressive caucus being the center left, the New Democrats being the center, and the Blue Dogs being the center right. No, I think the Democratic party needs to be re-added. They are clearly a left wing party. They have moved very clearly to the left in recent years with prominent left wing politicians like Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren. The United States Democratic Party is nowhere near as leftist as *any* socialist party in Europe or Latin America. Lay off the Fox News, you wouldn't know socialism if it hit you in the face. Anyway, on a global scale, both US parties would be considered center-right, Republicans slightly more right. On an American scale, the democratic party is leftist, republicans are right-wing. The Democratic Party is clearly left wing in modern ideology, pushing for socialized medicine, government control of major banking and economic systems in the country. This has been clear for some time now and backed by polling which shows a clear majority of party members considering themselves to be liberal/left in ideological views.Stuke2 (talk) 03:35, 17 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The Democratic Party is a centrist party. Its closest ideological ties in the anglophone world would be to Canada's Liberal Party, which is correctly described as centrist on Wikipedia and is if anything to the Democrats' left. Bernie Sanders is not a Democrat. He is only running as a Democrat for president. Sanders is still an independent in the US Senate and he is running as re-election there as one.Bjoh249 (talk) 19:40, 27 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The democratic party is a centre-left party. We really can't remove it from here. Some factions of it aren't certainly left-wing factions but it's true for various European social-democrat parties too. The Democratic party is mostly a social liberal party, so it's center-left. Liberalism=Centrism, Social Liberalism=Centre-left, Conservative liberalism=Centre-right. The difference between social liberals and social-democrats is almost non-existent nowadays. The US Democratic Party runs the gamut of liberalism. Some Democrats are leftists, but not all. And all are staunchly capitalist. So I don't think it can be considered a left-wing party. Qazolop123 (talk) 22:37, 10 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The US Republican party is listed under Wikipedia's "List of right-wing political parties" page. To the extent that the Republican party can be considered right wing, the Democratic party can be considered left wing. Prominent Socialists are gaining more traction in the Democratic party (e.g., Alexandria Ocasio Cortez, Keith Ellison, Elizabeth Warren). These are people that argue for the decidedly left wing policies of universal health care, limiting free speech rights, and limiting gun ownership rights. Democratic Party keeps being removed[edit]

Hello. The entry for the U.S. Democratic Party has been removed twice, without explanation. I believe that, while the party itself is not left-wing, there are left-wing factions within the party, such as the previously-listed Blue Collar Caucus and Congressional Progressive Caucus. I would like to ask why the entry is being repeatedly removed, without a listed reason. I would also like to re-add the example, but to bring it here first so as to not participate in an edit war.
