Pronounciation?

[edit]

How's it pronounced? "Len-zee" or "Ling" or something else? Timrollpickering 14:37, 4 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It is pronounced "Len-zae" TheMadTim 01:34, 27 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Station

[edit]

The train station was actually built for people from Kirkintilloch, and they don't have one of their own This isn't quite true: Kirkintilloch had a station, on the Campsie branch, which joined the mainline east of Lenzie station, at Campsie Junction. It opened roughly 8 years after the mainline station.

Etymology of Lenzie

[edit]

Can someone stop trying to suggest Lenzie is gaelic. I've not seen one iota of evidence to support this apart from a bit of overactive imagination. The earliest form is lingie and variants of that spelling which suggest an old scots origin not gaelic. Bugsy 19:27, 12 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Shifted all the naming & spelling stuff to a separate section and put the Gaelic in with a bona-fide ref (Mac an Tàilleir being of the Scottish Place Name Society and the source an official list of Gaelic forms of place names from the Scottish Parliament). The place name is derived from Gaelic after all : )
Also expounded a bit on the z/yogh things and added wiki standard IPA. Akerbeltz (talk) 15:39, 12 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Iain Taylor does not go by random similarities when dealing with etymologies, he's too much of an expert for that and his colleagues wouldn't take kindly to such a practice, but I can live with the re-worded version. ;) Akerbeltz (talk) 19:35, 20 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Churches

[edit]

Very little info about the churches as regards to ministers age of churches etc? Seems very little compared to the schools section for example —Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.236.26.152 (talk) 04:15, 1 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Lenzie Life

[edit]

Is the Carriages really one of Britain's top ten pubs? How was this measured? Profitability, choice of drinks, attractiveness of bar staff?Bitbyafoxattackedbyadeidguy (talk) 21:01, 21 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I second that, where is the proof of this, a sitation would be helpfull. Monkeymanman (talk) 19:58, 6 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
There is no proof, it's an average pub in an average area. It has a hot food takeaway stuck onto one side of it. It's not even in the top 10 pubs in East Dunbartonshire. WeeJimmyFaeGorgie (talk) 13:13, 1 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Scout leader

[edit]

I have removed the information about the scout leader again. The information is just about a court appearance. Without a conviction we should not be listed in any article as we are talking about a living person and listing what someone has been accused of does not belong. Even if he is convicted of the charges it probably is'n't appropriate for this article as this is a general article about the town. GB fan 00:15, 27 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
