Leonor Bonilla's Age

[edit]

Leonor Bonilla was born in 1970, not 1964. However, I was blocked by Bernard on the Spanish page for correcting this. — Preceding unsigned comment added by BRBurton23 (talkcontribs) 23:53, 16 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi BRBurton23 and thanks for your message. By chance do you have a link to a source that could verify this? For instance a newspaper article that mentions her age? Wikipedia does not have fact-checkers so the principle is that all information added should be accompanied by a source any reader could go check out for themselves--rather than having to trust that the person who added the info was correct.
We also have some policies about editing the site in cases of conflicts of interest--I'll leave you some information on your talk page in case this is relevant to you.
Finally, this page is at risk of deletion because it has very few sources overall, so if you have any links or references (e.g. to books or other kinds of sources) that describe Bonilla's career, please do mention them here so they can be incorporated and establish the page's notability to avoid deletion. PS, sorry I can't offer more insight about es-wiki policy. I don't edit there much and the sites are largely autonomous. Innisfree987 (talk) 00:19, 17 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Innisfree987 - I'm not an experienced user of Wikipedia (I contributed some stuff a long time ago), so I may not be doing this right, but I do have a source. Since a birth year is not really something that can be biased or subject to a point of view, I think it is worthy of revision regardless of my conflict of interest. I can show several sources, such as a driver's license, passport or even a birth certificate. I have access to all these things, since I am married to her. I just think Wikipedia, including the one in Spanish, should be committed to accuracy. Thank you for your help! :) — Preceding unsigned comment added by BRBurton23 (talkcontribs) 15:02, 18 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi BRBurton23, thanks so much for your quick reply! So in that case, the best thing--as I understand it, I don't use this process often--is for you to email in your question--more info here Wikipedia:Contact_us_-_Subjects--and the team that handles off-wiki communications can let you know what doc would be useful to show them, and then they can verify for us (so you don't have to put a sensitive document up on a website!)
I have to warn you, it's possible that this may be a lot of effort for naught, because unless the page gets more substantial secondary sources, it may be deleted as not meeting the "notability" requirements for a standalone entry in the encyclopedia (relevant policy would be WP:NPERSON or WP:NACTOR. But I totally understand why, as long as the entry is up, you'd want to make sure the DOB is correct. And if we can get it sorted here, I think there's a good chance we can find someone to contact es-wiki to relay the verification. Hope that helps! COI tag

[edit]

@Innisfree987: Tag placed on article due to non-reliably sourced content additions, esp. birthdate. Please restore my edit or remove the un-cited additions. GenQuest "Talk to Me" 19:58, 17 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi GenQuest and thanks for clarifying your concerns. So, if you dig into the edit history, you'll see that almost all of the unsourced bio detail was added by the editor who created this entry, Alka21, who has also edited the pages for the subjects' parents; they appear to be actors with much more extensive careers. So especially given the initial birth year added has been called into question (by a different person who volunteers up front that they have a personal connection), it seems to me much more likely to be that the bulk of the information came not from a personal connection but probably from public knowledge about a well-known family in the Mexican entertainment industry. So I don't necessarily see the neutrality issues in content required to maintain the COI tag.
That said, the unreferenced biographical material remains an issue, as does the limited referencing, which I think likely does not satisfy WP:SIGCOV. Unless that's improved, eventually someone will come along and nominate for deletion. It won't be me--I'm a slow enough reader in Spanish that I haven't the time to conduct WP:BEFORE properly--but I will remove unreferenced info if we can't get verifying sources soon. Alka21, any chance you could help us out with more sources to avoid this? As you can see above, I also inquired with BRBurton23 in case they may be able to point us to possible reference--as ever, of course preferable to improve the entry/content/referencing than remove! Thanks all. Innisfree987 (talk) 18:31, 18 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
