Merger proposal

[edit]

I've added a merge template at the article Starboat cove recommending that its (scant) content be added to this article. -- Heath 24.127.115.128 21:27, 8 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

"Lighthouse reserve" previously military reserve

[edit]

Re this:

Whereas most of the region has been logged, the trees in what is now the park were spared as they provided a necessary dark background for the lighthouse. The area was thus set aside in 1881 as the lighthouse reserve.

That's not quite the reason the trees were spared; one big one was that much bigger trees were much closer to Moodyville and Gastown sawmills and were not on rocky slopes. Another was that since 1859 or 1860 this site was a military reserve (and the trees thus the property of the military); others set aside as military reserves were what are now Cates Park, Belcarra, Burnaby Mountain, Stanley Park, Point Grey.....(all still parks, or mostly). Also "provided a necessary dark background for the lighthouse" strikes me as a confabulation....there's lots of lighthouses with NO trees behind them, and rocks in this area show as dark; and between the light as such and the famous foghorn, what's in the background doesn't matter (especially at night, or in heavy fog....).Skookum1 (talk) 14:00, 27 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Moved historic designation to Lighthouse article

[edit]

I moved the designation to the Point Atkinson Lighthouse as the lighthouse itself is the historic place, not the park. Magedq (talk) 02:00, 4 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
