To-par scores

[edit]

These are inaccurate prior to 1956 because even Golf Observer nor any of the other sources gives any inkling on any pars for the tournaments in question. We need to either find them or omit them entirely for the pre-1956 events. If this does not occur, it could potentially lead to the demotion of the FL in a removal process!SaysWhoWhatWhenWhereWhyHow? It's hard to find the to par scores prior to 1956 but not necessarily impossible. I just changed those for the 1949, 50, 52, and 53 plus 65 and 71 Open Championships. This after finding to par scores with the help of Google News archive-...William 22:41, 17 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The new list

[edit]

I know a lot of work went into the new listing, but it seems harder to understand chronologically. The "former" list contained more detail on each win, is easier to read in chronological order, etc. Can that list be restored and the new one kept and used later on the page? Randy Kryn (talk) 15:41, 13 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Randy Kryn, thanks for the feedback. The new list has filters at the top to order things depending upon what you want to view. Therefore if you click on the rank filter (second column), I think the information you want is displayed in an easy to read form (with player rank first, country second, continent third). If you wanted to see the chronological order of when players first won the Open you can filter on the first column. I think (hopefully) it has everything you want in an friendly displayed way. Is it okay if I just add a couple of lines above the table making the filtering clear? Alternatively, if you have another suggestion let me know. I would not want to remove something people find useful without providing a suitable alternative, so if you still do not think it is suitable we can obviously re add the old tables, but generally I try and avoid duplicating information if not necessary.--Jopal22 (talk) 16:22, 13 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, in terms of the former list containing more detail are you referring to the list of champions on The Open Championship page? That is basically the same as the "Champions by Year" list on this page, except has more detail. I have not altered either of them. I just removed 2 small tables (wins by golfer, and wins by country)--Jopal22 (talk) 16:47, 13 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. There's a pretty good how-to-click section at the top of the list of List of pioneers in computer science. Since I'm not very active in the golf articles (I've got this one on my watchlist because someone wanted to change the name of 'The Open Championship' at one point) my comment was just my opinion, I can see the large amount of work you put into the list, thanks.
