Population figures needed

[edit]

Looking for population figures for each city. -- Beland (talk) 00:11, 3 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Found many of them from official censuses, do you know how to convert this table so that it is sortable? The rank currently reflects older data. Working on filling out some missing numbers. Mattximus (talk) 04:23, 5 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Inserted more 2009 Census details, and manually re-sorted the largest cities according to 2009 populations. Be careful as some towns do not have the same names as the communities in which they lie. Also at least one of the "towns" named is actually just a small village. Rif Winfield (talk) 08:52, 14 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I just rewrote the whole table from scratch. Now there are no missing numbers and it includes all cities over 50,000 people. I think this is a better approach for the list of cities page. The only problem is re-sorting the largest cities by 2009 pop, is there any way to automate this?Mattximus (talk) 01:13, 15 April 2012 (UTC)  Done[reply]
One problem is that you have listed all the communes with over 50,000 population, even though a number of these are specifically rural communes, not cities. I have added a column to indicate which communes are urban and which are rural. I also added in the one commune with more than 50,000 that you missed (Baguineda-Camp), and I added a second table to show all the remaining urban communes (i.e. towns) with fewer than 50,000 population. Rif Winfield (talk) 20:19, 19 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
You are absolutely correct, I should have made the distinction myself. Thank you. I don't think there is any harm in leaving in the rural communes now that they are labelled as such.Mattximus (talk) 19:33, 20 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with your last point, although perhaps the title of the article should be amended to append the words "and largest communities". And ought we to put in a reference (footnote) to which of the communes listed are within the area of the unrecognised Republic of Azawad? Rif Winfield (talk) 08:17, 21 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
How about creating the page called "List of communes in Mali" or "List of largest communes in Mali" and have it redirect to this page. I do agree that the name is no longer precise to the content, but there is a page called "list of cities in ..." for all countries and would not want Mali to be the only one with a different title. Not sure about Azawad, will support your decision here. Perhaps a simple asterisks beside commune name with footnote at bottom? Mattximus (talk) 03:37, 24 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Concerning the citations

[edit]

All of the citations on this page are broken. Cheeseywiz98 (talk) 06:36, 26 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The main homepage of the links still work though, and this is what I got: One/some of these pdf file(s) should be able to replace the broken ones. From what I can tell, this specific one should be good. Cheeseywiz98 (talk) 06:51, 26 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
